Wireless adapter for Vista

I have used a Trendnet usb wireless adapter for my old XP desctop for
a year, and when I got my new Vista desktop, I moved the XP driver
to it and the adapter works, but not solidly.

Now there is a Vista driver on Trendnet's website, and I have
tried almost everything to get the adapter to work with it.

The driver installs fine, and Vista recognizes the router, tells me
the network is available, but is unable to connect to it. It does not
get anywhere, does not ask me for a WEP code or anything. Vista
just says that it cannot connect to the network

I also cannot connect to the router through the fixed router IP address
as I can from my XP computer.

Any suggestions?

Did you setup the router to only accept certian Mac addresses? If you did you have to add the new one.

You won't be able to connect the router using the static IP from that desktop until you establish the wireless connection first.

No, that is not the case. I can connect to the router from different laptops.

I don't have any experience with Vista but you might consider looking at firmware upgrades for your router. There might be something that is required. (Outside shot but you never know.)

You could consider testing the connect after shutoff the security on the router and see if that make any difference. You could always ask Microsoft support... :D

I have upgraded the router firmware, with no result. And I tried to turn
off WEP security from the router, also with no result.

The crazy thing is that the old XP driver works pretty good, it just
signs off when there is no traffic for a while.

It is a wireless usb adapter from Trendnet TEW 444ub. It works fine on an
XP desktop and on an old 98 laptop. And it works on Vista, with the old XP
driver, but falls out once in a while, and when Vista wakes up.

Thanks for helping.

Whatever possessed you to do that? :p
Actually, it is a lightening fast duo core Lenovo, that I got quite cheap.

Of course, my old NEC laser printer does not have a driver for it, and
the Trendnet wireless usb adapter works only most of the time.

PS: I am still running my old slow XP desktop for printing. Is it possible to
print from the Vista machine via the network to the printer on the XP,
even if I don't have a driver for the printer on the Vista?

Unlike a lot of folks here, I'm a computer dummy. However you might want to look here: http://www.networkmagic.com/ It might serve your needs.
