I recently came across an opportunity and was interviewed for a position in the Middle East. Although I am new to the particular industry, I am very much experienced in my professional field.

I was given a job offer by the employer recently and was surprised that their offer was less than what I had hoped for.

I currently make $4200+ net (after taxes) in canada. The offer that was given to me (which includes housing allowance, transportation) is $7096 after conversion. Now the issue is
a) there are no pension or rrsp contribution
b) my gf does not want me to go so far away
c) I was told by recruiter tht the hours are long and there are no bonuses setup as well.

I tried to counter my offer to make it $8000 via a phone convo., however I was told it was set based on my pay grade, so increase is not feasible. Now my question is, do I email her "my counter" to bring my point across?

Pls save the wise guy comments to else where. Thanks.

Take it. It might not be the best de4al but when else are you going to get to travel like that AND get to be paid. Your gf might not be impressed and you might loose out of some regular job perks but it would be quite an experience. Not a forever thing necessarily but for the time being. Might be able to work your way up to the perks ;)
Send your counter (nicely) but regardless take it.
Plus...middle eastern girls are hot!

Well if at the end of it boils down between you going aboard and your gf, just tell her that you are on terb and let her decide for you!

Check out your tax situation to see whether the offer puts you ahead or not. If you establish residency abroad, you may not have to pay Canadian taxes and the country where you are going may have much lower taxes or none. Make sure you consult a tax professional. There are a lot of wrinkles such as if you own a house here it will affect your status. Also check whether they block TERB! :))

As said before check with an accountant, but it's seem the offer is good. Almost a 75% increase plus includes housing and transportation. That's probably an extra $2000 at toronto's rental rates

The most important thing to consider is who you want to live, and what price are you willing to pay to have to live in the Middle East. It is not a great place to live if you are only making $100,000k a year.

If I do the math correctly:

You are netting $50,400 a year (after tax) which works out to approximately $90,000.00 gross pay per year here in Canada. If you are prudent with good tax planning and taking advantage of RSP tax deductions, and maybe see some tax-free capital gains on your primary residence you can probably increase your actual annual take home pay.

If you move to the Middle East you will gross $84,000 a year. So they value your services less than your Canadian employer.

The only benefit is that if you take ALL the steps required to become a non-resident of Canada, you will not be liable for paying Canadian taxes.

And make no mistake, there are many CRA tests to be deemed a non-resident for tax purposes. Including demonstrating a long term intention to cease being a resident of Canada. Including selling or bringing all your furniture, personal items, along. Including severing membership in social clubs, professional associations etc. Going away for a couple years on a temporary contract job probably doesn't cut it. Which then makes you liable to pay Canadian income taxes.

Frankly, you are just taking another job for the same money and having to live in a very different society, under very different rules and living conditions. If it made you an extra $500,000 over 3-5 years and that extra cash would make you happier, then it might be worth considering.

Otherwise, living here for the same money is wayyyyyyyyyy better!

Wise guy threads deserve wise guy comments.
You continuously start threads asking questions about what to do in life, from multiple threads asking on how to deal with girlfriend, then threads about starting different business ideas, then threads about working part time for UBER, and to threads asking about loans for bad credit, to threads even asking about what octane gasoline to use and that is just a list of only a few.

I have come to a conclusion you are either trolling everyone here and you are completely bored and come up with these threads, or you are the most inexperienced male on the planet and need others input to make any decision in your life.

You will never be a man when you need others input to make a decision in life and can't make important decisions on your own, and deal with the consequences good or bad.

Here is a list of all the other wonderful trolling threads you have started.

Hey bud

yeah thanks for your input. sorry, my net-net is 4200 after rrsp and contribution etc. the industry is the airline industry so has perks of travel and many discounted rates which is really attractive. i've partied too much over the past 10 years or so, so i didnt manage to save much. i am in my 30s now and looking to start building on my finances and settle down. i only write here to get some feedback from ppl as they may have experience or some wise words which always helps.

I can make life decisions very easily unlike yourself who constantly needs to ask questions on what to do in life which is the complete definition of a retard.
Like I said earlier you are trolling here, this thread is going to go on and on and you are going to be given advice after advice and you will keep on posting the same thing over and over, just like every other thread you have started page after page of the same thing.

Your posting history shows all of the above.

Just do it. Maybe it will suck. Maybe it will be great. Either way it will be a pretty different life experience.

If after a year it is crap just come back.

I know people who have done this. Some loved it. Some hated it. None regretted giving it a try.

OP which part of Middle East is it? As long as you feel safety is not a concern go for it.
