So, how you enjoy working from home? Ok, I'll go first. I kissed a girl and I liked it. Ooops, wrong thread. Yeah, I actually enjoy working from home.

Working from home since pandemic hit. Love working from home.
No more driving 45 minutes one way, no more 407.
I only drive my car to buy groceries and occasional errands.
If/when COVID has been effectively managed, I'm hoping that I can continue to work from home.
My workplace's productivity hasn't been affected at all.

The only thing I miss is the camaraderie of the fellow associates at the office.

I do enjoy not having to drive back & forth each day, the time wasted between working on actual deals while I was there, and some meetings I had to attend that were really of no benefit to me.

Apparently management feels the same way too, and will probably downsize the office space now that they realize that only a few top management people really need to work at the office, and everybody else is just as effective working from home.

As usual, we tend to do things in a certain way because that's the way they have always been done. Then something happens, in this case unfortunately Covid, that makes us realize that another way might be more efficient and better.

This will have social and commercial ramifications. Less need to go downtown and less need for office space and less business for the bars and restaurants.

In our case we actually started to have some people work remotely immediately after 9/11 in case the unimaginable happens.
BTW: I have been deducting some of my home expenses for tax purposes since I do have to maintain a home office.

I have been home since last March and it saves me 3-4 hours each day commute time and I have an extra $600.00 or more each month as I am not taking the Go train from the north to Union everyday.I do miss my co-workers but we now have decided to go in once a month for general meetings. The 1 thing I do not miss is traffic and ignorant people. Here's to staying home until I retire in 4 years.

Smart. I had to tell a friend that - surprised that she didn't even know. Even simple things like printer ink, highlighters, etc. can be deducted. Or a nice new filing cabinet. ;) Keep your receipts.

I have worked from home now for close 7 years now. Wouldn't ever want to go back unless I can get a government job. That is now my end goal, so if anyone knows how to get a foot into the City of Burlington, PM me been trying for years :) . I personally like working from home so much savings all around and we usually meet up with colleagues usually for lunch just to catch up - it works well.

Working at home is ok maybe 1 day a week, but I very much prefer the office environment.

There's people, there's the ability to interact on a human level, there's the ability to have one on one conversations, there's stimulation for the senses.

Covid will pass and people who choose not to be in the office will be shooting themselves in the foot career wise as they will not be in the middle of it all.

The commercial ramifications you talk about could actually be a near catastrophe for commercial real estate. And for all activity surrounding downtown (shops/restaurants).

BTW: Me too I have been deducting all expenses for tax purposes. That reminds me that if ever I get audited at my home I hope to get warned in advance in order to have enough time to take out that 65 inches flat tv from my living room back to my office ;)

I’ve worked from home for years. I’m fine with it. What I don’t like is everyone else not leaving during the day.
100% agree Barney, been working from home for 15 plus years now. Previous years just me and the dog, now the house is half full all the time. I can't catch a break and easily sneak out to visit someone. NOW I need to build an excuse to leave for a couple of hours

I'm wondering what the long-term impact on the commercial real estate market is going to be.

Many companies that rented office space and began having their employees work from home when the pandemic began seem to be finding that things are working out well. It's a lot cheaper to buy everyone laptops and have Zoom or Skype meetings whenever everyone needs to be in the same room together. The company I work for is going permanently remote; we're not renewing our expensive lease, and I would suspect many others will be doing the same. If that's true, there will be a lot of empty buildings in the years to come.

Could also have an effect on condo prices if some of that commercial space is converted to residential.

Have to say that if I was still living with my ex-wife working from home would be hell on earth...
