Well these cars are probably made for only the Chinese market. They would have to go through years of testing and qualification before they even touched a North American road. The automotive industry is the largest industry in the world, and do you honestly think the major companies in control now will let some cheap China brand enter the market easily? Look how long it took Hyundai to establish a name for itself, or even Kia. New brands with cheap labour costs have a tough battle ahead of them. But i do like the concept of these cheap made in China vehicles, but the big boys will give them the hardest time...Honda, Toyota, GM, Benz, BMW..etc...

Seems transportation is getting really expensive. Transit fare hikes, taxi fare hikes, gas price hikes. We are gonna have to figure out better ways to get from A to B. Or maybe that idea of living complexes/shopping malls will be the future.

Reputedly, the Chinese companies avoid/ignore pattent laws and just 3D scan parts on other companies cars and CNC them for their own cars. They can get away with it too as long as they just sell them there.

Annoced at Detroit auto show, Chery will be in U.S. later this year. Their backer Bricklin not too popular with the Motortown crowd.

Basketcase, Chinese companies don't need to 3D them. In some cases, get foreign company to invest, learn their craft, took over and boot them out. Their patient laws like most emerging countries are laxed, slowly improving with foreign pressure.

I agree with goodtime, basketcase. Does anybody know Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eagle Talon? Where do you think US got the idea to make Eagle Talon?LOL. China is like the giant. He is waking up slowly, but when he is fully waken up, he is non stopable. Either in military or economy.

The Chinese military does have physical numbers, but on the technological and financial side, they don't stand much of a chance amongst the more funded militaries such as the United States, or Great Britain.

Suspicions.

I have always suspected that the Japanese did not make their cars as nice as they could have they just put realy good quality and value into their vehicles so that there would not be a huge back lash from the american public. A case in point, the Honda pilot (not good looking)and ridgeline (prety ugly). Just try one, and tell me if that is not the best ride you have ever experienced in a pick-up truck!
The cars from China will not be very good at first , but they will adapt to the European and North American markets. What will sell their cars are value and price. Can you beat a $6999.99 car that is fully equiped and warrantied for 8 years? How many of you will buy the cars that will be made by a Chinese company and Porsche joint venture These cars will be sold for Honda Civic and Accord prices. Also look for huge Chinese content in your Japanese, European, and Americans cars in the future.

Certainly.

It took Hyundai about 20 years to be what they are now in North America, I'd guess ( if all remain constant ) Chinese made automobile will have a significant % of the market here in about 15.

There are already loads of Chinese cars and trucks, SUV's ( and not to mention motorcycles ) runnig around in Central and South American countries. It'd be interesting to see how the US automakers will fend their turf.
