the stats show that speeding is the actual cause of an insignificantly small number of accidents while it is by far the most heavily policed.
While I'm not disputing this statement, I'd like to know how you can state this as fact.

Time to buy one of those black plastic things that all the punks put on their plates on their rice burners and seem to get away with it.

Fight bullshit with bullshit.

The more I think about this, the more it pisses me off. Reading what Pallydin wrote, for example.

I'd like to know if photo-radar actually "saves lives" like the proponents are saying. I highly doubt it. I know I'll be watching the shoulders much more for the farking vans, and I know that others will as well.

Actually, a good compromise would be to raise the speed limit to 125 km/h, and legislate that the photo-radar vans would be set at 130 km/h. Thereby, you're getting the people that are really showing disregard for the law and leaving the people who are driving according to road design and car design alone.

Politician, one of the few jobs where you can get in trouble actually doing what you say you are going to

Even when the circumstances indicated it was the wrong thing to do!!

He was a one trick pony! Cut taxes then run and leave someone else to sort the mess

That can't be right, i got a huge ticket one week in my company truck on the 401 so i vowed to keep it under 120 from then on only to get a ticket the following week for 113kph. I was always told that they set their camera based on the flow of traffic.

That said, i'm definately no fan of photo law enforcment, but i'm living in Edmonton temporarily where they have red light cameras everywhere and photo radar all over the city and let me tell you, it has completely neutered the vast majority of the drivers here. Forget speeding, most of them drive UNDER the limit.

I got a photo radar ticket for 10 kilometre over the limit. I was so ticked I made up my mind to fit it until I was broke. I got to court and found the ticket quashed.

I can see it now.

How many cars will have those Crappy Tire blue licence plate frames stacked up on their plates?

Could be another custom car sub culture.

The key point, revenue-raising or not, is that photo-radar only catches those breaking the law.
That's the problem. It does not. It penalizes the vehicle owner who may NOT be driving. And because of that, no demerit points are deducted, so no real deterrent. And it ignores the more serious problems of people driving in lanes they're not supposed to be in, tailgaters, drivers weaving in and out of lanes at high speeds, drunk drivers, etc.

In short, a simple cash grab.

WhOiSyOdAdDy?

If they bring back photo radar, they should allow radar detectors

btw radar detectors are for sale and legal to use in BC

I got a photo-radar ticket for $53. I sent a photograph of $53 to the Receiver General. They sent me a photograph of a pair of handcuffs.

I paid my fine.

Got a problem with fining those who break the law?
If so, what other laws would you selectively ignore?
I have a problem being treated worse for 10 Kilometres over speed limit than a drunk driver in a school zone

I have a problem with selectitive enforcement, these photo radar tickets aren't enforceable on most out of province drivers

I also have problem with selective enforcement i.e. photo radar is an automatic ticket for the full speed. I a live police officer is there they will use descretion and generally pass on speeding in 10 to 15 klicks over range and reduce many others.

Finaly we need some thought to avoid repetion of the incident where a driver in a moderate car (toyota?) was passed by spors car doing 200+(240?) and the toyata driver got ticket and picture with both cars in it and the opinion that the officer reviewing the picture could tell that which car was speeding.

On a more serious note... the radar vans are not helping stranded motorists or careless drivers or responding to accidents are they... so we loose the positives of Highway patrol but keep the negatives... not to mention getting the crap scared out of you at night when the flash goes off .....
