James Deen, I’ve just read, is going to follow Rocco Siffredi’s footsteps as one of the few porn actors to land a role in a new mainstream movie opening next month. At 26, Deen who apparently has already acted in more than a thousand porn movies—surpassing Siffredi’s record--is casted in The Canyons, a sex thriller, as Christian, a sociopath. In the flick, he regularly invites men and women to his home to have sex with his girlfriend.
It’d be interesting to see his non-sexual performance in the new show. The story has it that movie director David Schrader who wrote the screenplay for the hit movie Taxi Driver, had a tough time deciding whether an actor with “his bad habits” from the porn milieu can fit the bill in a contemporary movie setting. According to an article in a film mag, Schrader had asked his wife to view the videos of the three shortlisted candidates for the role of Christian.
Does anybody remember Siffredi’s acting (as well as his unsimulated sex scene) in the French movie, Romance, shown in the Carlton cinemas in Toronto a few years back? How did you think he did in the non-sex department? Does that matter?
