I graduated from York a few decades ago. It was quite friendly when it came to Jews. We even had Jewish holidays off and there wouldn’t be any assignments due or exams on those religious days. Met some great people who remain friends to this day.

I was quite surprised to read that York along with McMaster was named in a class action lawsuit pertaining to comments made about Israel and how the Jewish students felt they were unsafe on campus as a result of the protests and demonstrations on campus about the issues in Gaza.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully support the position taken by the people of Palestine in protesting against what the IDF has done in the last 3 months. But for a Union representing teaching assistants to come out and want them to read from a script about their political position is going a bit too far.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but utilizing a classroom to further one’s agenda shouldn’t be done.

This isn't new. My nephew went to York U. over 5 years ago and he said the anti-Semitism there was almost intolerable.

Also my daughter went to George Vanier High School about 12 years ago as they have a great art program. She had to quit the elective "World Religions" class due to being ganged up on by all the Muslim students in the class whenever the subject of the Middle East came up, as she was the only Jew in the class.

Thank god my son chose to be in trades instead of anything York U is offering...I wouldn't trust anybody with pink color hair who can't tell what gender people belong to to conduct class in a university setting....

that is just terrible. very different from 20 years back.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but utilizing a classroom to further one’s agenda shouldn’t be done.

Unfortunately, when it comes to places of work your employer can manage/control your speech. You are always free to say what ever you want, unfortunately it will be while collecting unemployment insurance cheques.
