Amazing video.

I had no idea sea lions would try to eat humans.

If you watch the entire video, first they fed the sea lion, then they pretended to feed the sea lion but didn't -- then this. Perhaps parents don't tell children anymore: "Don't tease the (type of animal)!"

thanks smallcock:).. I was so shocked I had to watch it three times!
Aardvark. I agree, there are reasons they tell people not to feed the animas and this is one of them. You never ever should feed or get to close to a wild animal.

That wasnt the same sea lion they pretended to feed. That one looked like a male and was clearly agitated. As soon as it lunged at the girl the first time, take a look at its warning when it gets back in the water. Mouth wide open. They should have left then, but the girls sits right back down on the edge with her back to an angry predator. What comes next is predictable.

I didn't even see there was more then one I was too busy watching the little girl get snatched. Obviously the girls parents are to blame they should have never let her sit so close to a wild animal. Yes, the animal had its mouth open but how was anyone to know that as a warning sign if they have never been near it? This is a tourist destination in Vancouver , I don't think they meant for it to happen . However I'm sure somewhere there were signs posted somewhere as warnings.

I totally blame the girl's parents for the incident - totally negligent.
Just like that time when the kid fell into the gorilla pen. They had to kill the gorilla.

There was another recent incident involving a 10 year old girl grabbed by an alligator.

I think it was the white color that attracted the sea lion to the little girl. Sea lions can grow to 2500lbs. and can eat 20-30 kg. a day. They have teeth like 6" nails to pierce fish and eat sea gulls as they sit in the water. I think the sea lion thought the girl was a sea gull.

Recently there was a story of a girl that got grabbed by an alligator, she put her fingers in its nostrils and it let go. I do not think it was lack of air that made the alligator let go, as they can stay submerged for 20 minutes.. If someone stuck their fingers in your booger holes and started to wiggle, you would freak out too.

that man was her family member. probably her dad or uncle. He didn't even think twice. I wouldn't either if it was my family. Harry sometimes things happen. Its the parents fault for letting her get to close .

what part of WILD animals that people don't git??????? Stupid people!
"Please do not feed the sea lions." What part of "Please do not feed the sea lions" people don't understand?

Wild animals and stupid people are a bad combination.

Amazing video.

I had no idea sea lions would try to eat humans.
I've inadvertently ended up in the water with stellar sea lions before. They were as surprised to see me as I was to see them. They are BIG, but I'm not sure in retrospect how aggressive they are towards people. One big male was flashing his teeth and took an aggressive stance towards me, but I still don't think he was trying to eat me. Bite the shit out of me, maybe, but I don't feel they saw me or the poor little girl as an actual viable meal, despite their 2500lbs of awesomeness.

When you feed a large marine opportunistic carinovore as casually as you'd feed a duck, you're asking for trouble if you get too close.

I was spear fishing around California sea lions years ago and when they bit at my fish, they bit and RAN, and don't let go. It looks to me like the seal in the video thought he had an easy meal (the white of the dress, which could be mistaken for a lot of different fish in that area), realized it was attached to something it couldn't eat, and let it be.

Last summer I ended up in La Paz. The California sea lions there were soooo friendly, but it was always a bit weird when they'd kind of gum your skull. Always seemed like a warning ("I could literally crush your skull, small human.")

The animals in that video had at-least 1,000lbs on most California seals I've seen, they could do serious damage, but it's pretty rare to hear it happening.

Leapard seals, different story.

Kids can be so loveable and delicious at the same time.
That's one sneaky sea lion though.
Quick thinking by Grandpa.
But once again as mentioned above and we see all over Canada.
Negligence of Parents with their kids running wild over the mall etc, and their stubbornness and laziness to not correct/discipline their kids until tragedy strikes.
Parents these days give kids so much leeway and smother them to the extent that they don't want to tell their kids not to do something.
Until something bad happens. Kids don't know any better and will surely take a mile if given an inch and the parents look on and say nothing.
Parents know the dangers but think they're doing their kids a disservice, depriving them or even killing them when they correct them.
No wonder kids end up ruling parents and embarrassing them at a later age.
Parents can be simply lazy, too timid to correct their kids because they want to be friends.
Parents are to blame for incidents like this especially the ones not qualified to have kids in the first place.
Sorry for the rant.:)

The Bible says that Man has dominion over all living things, so I'm assuming the sea lion was put down.

It's spring, it's mammal and horny, probably sending a message to dumb humans not to violate it's space.
