Best time to put on the WINTER TIRES ???

When's the best time to put on the winter tires ? I had mine put on last year at the end of October or beginning november.. Cant remember.

When do the majority of you put ur winteries on ?

P.S My brand new winter tires make the car vibrate at speeds of 70 kmph and over.. Is that normal? I had them re balanced by Crappy Tire twice and they said it was done correctly .. (even though they admitted to it being off a little bit the first time)

Any need to get them rebalanced? Thanks in advance

The best time for me is around 8 am in the morning, just before I set out for the day. Stay tuned to the forecasts, when you suspect snow, put them on just before it snows, doesn't matter if it's the end of October, November or December.

I'd get them rechecked at another place, sounds like a re balancing problem to me, in fact just happened a couple of weeks ago to me.

Once the temperature is regularly around +7C the rubber begins to lose effectiveness on all season tires. At that point, it's time to change to winter tires. If you wait too long it will also take to long to change them at your dealer/garage as everyone else will be doing it also.

Some places are offering advance order/purchase programs for approximately 10% savings. Do it because when they come in you can get preferential treatment for service.

Nice to know what you think about your driving skills. There's been research done by all sorts of companies and association all the way back to the mid 60'd that show without a doubt winter tires are better in winter conditions, improving your control from 25 -50% over all seasons or summer tires.

Some day it will be compulsory, just like other provinces.

He doesn't have to drive anywhere... most SP's go to his house. I think he's done one actual incall in 30 years.

Even the liquor/beer store is within walking distance.

The only reason he drives is for his annual prostate examination.

We are expecting a mild fall and winter, it i best to put on you winter tires when the temperature goes to 5 c or under. Even if it is warm it is best to put on your winter tires the first or second week of December. I can wait that long because I have the winter tires on rims and have my Hydralic jack and jack stands and electric impact wrench. I can do the change in about 20 minutes.

BTW Nordic Trac winter tires are on sale at Canadian Tire for %25 off regular price this week. You get better winter traction and you save the tread on your summer tires. Get rims for your tires if possible. The life you save may be you own.

The only extra cost to having winter tire is the cost of the extra set of rims which are easier on the tires than remounting them on a single rim and buy steel rims as they deal with winter conditions better than Mags. If you make the change over as part of your regular rotation regime the service costs are cut in half, win/win.

You should be able to get 25% off regular price now from lmose anywhere except watch for the age of tires going on sale right now. They could be last years stock. I wouldn't buy year old tires that have been sitting.

At about $12 - 14 to mount and balance a tire and then the same amount to remount the summer tires in March. ( about $96 to $112 plus tax a year for 2 change overs )The steel rims you buy will pay for themselves in 2 winter seasons. As far as buying old rubber, Canadian tire sells so many tires that there are few left from last year. Even if it is a left over, tires do not deteriorate in one year. The tire story on 20/20 about tires shops that sell old tires were refering to tires that were from 5 to 8 years old or more.

They may not be lying to you, but come on. The Tire guy gets nothing out of selling you new tires every season ? Have you been drinking ?

Mid-December, when the day time tempertures are no more than 5 celcius. Above 5 you will EAT your tires up.

Why spend extra money on tires 2 years sooner than you have too, that like 3 visits to Mirage.

The winter tires I have are a year old, they have not deteriorated in the 11 months that I have had them. I once made a set of winter tires last 6 years and the tread was still good when I traded the car. I did about 6000 - 7000 km. per winter on them.
