I want to get a tan but I understand tanning spas are bad for you

An alternative are spray on tans

You get into a shower and they spray an agent on you that tans

Does it work?

Is the tan even?

Is it unhealthy?

How long does it last ?

Sounds like you could really fuck yourself up bad by spraying a chemical all over yourself !

They have those mystique booths, where it's a stand-up machine spray tan.

It's temporary but it also works well as a 'base' tan.

Just make sure to let your skin dry a bit when you come out 'cause you might streak the tan. So stand and let dry for a few minutes, and it should be flawless. It last a few days if you don't decide to 'build' on that tan with the tanning beds.

Are you a White guy? Why would a White guy (or woman) want to look tanned:confused:? Nature made you White. Don't mess with Mother Nature. Don't mess around with unnecessary chemicals.

The spray-on tans are pretty good. My friend competes in bikini contests, but she is ghost white and does not tan. She used to go to salons for spray-on tans, and they were good, but now she bought a tanning air-brush thing to do it yourself at home. I have sprayed her a few times (not as hot as it might sound).

But the tan is very realistic. It is good for three or four days, and still detectable after a week. She did me a few times, it looks like a tan. But you are sticky and have to stay naked for an hour or so, and not sit down, and I do not have the patience.

I appreciate the responses

They indicate that such tanning works and is safe and is particularly effective if you follow it up with a tanning bed although it is the bed that has health concerns

Any other opinions before I do something I will regret ?

Yes, the FDA (?) have finally concluded that tanning beds cause cancer, so following up with the tanning bed might not be the best idea.

Ok, so we thought tanning beds were safer than baking and basting on the beach, until the cancers started showing up a decade later. And the beds had been examined, tested and passed by the authorities. Who's done that for these chemical sprays? How long have the first guinea pigs had to demonstrate no harmful aftereffects? The list of paints and powders once used as makeup that were later proven sick-making is long, and juicing your body's photo chemistry by spraying some newly-discovered chemical on it shows more confidence in dollar-driven science than I have.

I'd recommend good old-fashioned, all-organic sunshine in small, frequent, moderated overall doses, and if you don't darken up, … Well, Goth is also a popular look.

But if you go for the gold, remember the best insurance of good derma-health is frequent, close-up, detailed examination by someone who cares. Do not be tempted to skimp on this important measure. Tell her it's vital.

It does not work well AS a base tan.
Instead, if you already have a base tan from the sun..or tanning beds.. then it looks more natural and you can get it too look more natural over your base tan already.

and you're NOT supposed to stand there.. lol.
because if the solution drips..you WILL streak.

as soon as you hop out, you take a towel and rub yourself down COMPLETELY from your feet up. You will probably be thinking, "won't the tan come off, if I rub it away?" .. no it won't.. once the pigments have come in contact with your skin they are staying there.

I personally prefer mystic tans better because they are healthier.. the only downside is that they only stay on for no more than 5 days.

I used to do them regularly a few years ago when I was a bit of a tanning addict.
They're okay if you're in a pinch and want a bit of colour but I personally wouldn't start doing them again.

I found the colour to be a bit too orange. Elbows, knees, and ankles tend to pick up more of the spray, thereby turning a darker colour. When the tan fades, if you don't have a base tan, your skin starts looking uneven and blotchy.
