Charter a plane. Fly your friends to France. Make toast. Return.

Are you guys serious? This is TERB for crying out loud. The only food group we should be discussing is... well you know. :rolleyes:

French toast is a simple bread in egg and milk wash. Here are my suggestions for something a little different.

- Use day old bread for a stiffer french toast. Fresh bread is too soft.
- Add vanilla extract or other fruit extract flavorings. You can find these near the spice racks at the grocery store.
- Use grenadine, Cointreau or Southern Comfort in your egg wash.

You can also pre-drizzle the bread before you dunk it into the egg wash.

- Mix melted butter. half a teaspoon of cinnamon and about 2 oz. of Cointreau and drizzle on bread. About a table spoon of this on the bread is enough. Then dip it into the egg wash. Now you have flavor inside and outside the french bread. A melted peanut butter drizzle is also good. Mix melted butter with peanut butter to make a liquid to drizzle over bread. Make 3 lines vertical and 3 lines horizontal before you dip in egg wash.
- Cinnamon sprinkle is nice.

There are a million recipe books and online recipe finders... however.. ill take the bait with my alltime greatest french toast recipe:

Slice some crsty day old bread thinly... soak each slice in egg and milk mixture (with cinnamon and vanilla extract). Seperately , create a mixture of the following: marscapone or cream cheese, cinnamon, maple syrup, walnuts and touch of lemon juice).

place one slice in hot skillet, spread mixture ontop, place 2nd slice on top (like a sandwhich). Flip over when ready.... the sides should start to fuse together a little bit. try to keep the mixture in the middle and not too close to the ends or it will seep out and creadt a bit of a mess.

Serve with strawberry's and maple syrupo (optional whipped cream - real only)

ENJOY... tell me how you liked it.

Grand Marnier French Toast

* 4 large eggs
* 3/4 cup half and half
* 1/4 cup Grand Marnier or other orange-flavored liqueur or frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
* 2 tablespoons sugar
* 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 8 3/4-inch-thick French bread slices

* 4 tablespoons(1/2 stick) butter
* Powdered sugar
* Warm maple syrup

Whisk first 6 ingredients to blend in medium bowl. Dip each bread slice into egg mixture and arrange in 13x9x2-inch glass baking dish. Pour remaining egg mixture evenly over bread. Let stand until egg mixture is absorbed, at least 20 minutes. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)

Place baking sheet in oven and preheat to 350&F. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add 4 bread slices to skillet and saut&until cooked through and brown, about 3 minutes per side. Place on baking sheet in oven to keep warm. Repeat cooking with remaining 2 tablespoons butter and 4 bread slices. Transfer French toast to 4 plates. Sift powdered sugar over. Serve with maple syrup.

Lots of good French Toast suggestions!
Using a firmer type of bread makes sense but I've tried rye bread without success because it couldn't absorb as much of the egg wash.
If you use a fresh white bread, try the thicker Texas toast style.

Luv, I'm going to try the banana bread way tomorrow!

If you like Cointreau in your pancake or french toast recipe then I can suggest you use Triple Sec. You will never notice the difference if you are making pancakes or french toast, but there is a big difference in price at the booze store. Grand Marinier is just pretentious Cointreau!:D

Fremch toast?

Add lots of ham and cheddar cheese in the middle of two slices. Then top with a mound of fresh fruit - strawberries, grapes, melons etc. and a nice dollup of real English cream...

Oh, and maple syrup...and garlic butter...and...
