Will the Leafs go winless?

Just think if the Leafs finish last they just gave the first overall pick to Boston. If the season turns out to be a disaster it's time to fire Burke and Wilson. I say Leafs go 10 games without a win.
And replace them with who?
Both of these guys have forgotten more about hockey than most people on this board will ever know

Firing your GM every year or two will guarantee a team that loses far more than they win.

Burke's long term plan is sound & should eventually lead to a winning competitive team.
If you fire him I guess we will never really know.

But it makes people think they're smart when they call for firings.
You have hit the nail on the head.
This is the over-riding problem with most Leaf fans and Leaf Nation.
Fans with a non-sensical sense of entitlement and a belief that they are smarter than the owners or management.
It lends itself to a vicious circle of blame and disinterest in pro sports.
Proof? See the Oakland Raiders.

The issue isn't that they're losing, it's how they're losing, completely uncompetitive, I was at the game and they looked terrible, absolutely no game plan, no talent, no work ethic. Mitchell's giveaway was inexcusable and he belongs on the Marlies.

Why did Burke trade Kubina, arguably our best defenseman, for a spare part in Exelby, who doesn't even dress regularly? To save a few million$ for Grabovski? He's terrible, the current generation's Berezin without the scoring touch.

Why did Burke recruit all the college players (who were excellent in the pre-season) only to have Wilson go with the same old same old? Wasn't the goal to eliminate the sense of entitlement?

Toskala is ruined, he should be traded however no one would want him, he should be bought out, let Macdonald and Gustavson run with it, sign Gerber as backup, he was pretty solid last year.

Send a bunch of guys to the minors, bring Bozak and Hanson back up, and maybe Frogren. Finger is too slow to play in the league, I think he makes $4 million, you're telling me Kubina wasn't worth the $5 million? Truly baffling personnel changes made by Burke.

Thank God Kadri didn't stay with the team, he doesn't need to be exposed to this losing mentality.

Looking at the schedule it may be concievable they go 10-12 games before a win. But I certainly hope not.

In the history of modern sports I don't think a 1st overall pick has ever been traded prior to the start of a season. It's a real possibility this year because the Leafs look bloody awful. And you know they'll trade away more of the future in an attempt to prevent this embarassment when it becomes apparent late in the season.

The Leafs have 3 problem areas:
1) Worst goalie in the league.:(
2) Almost worst defense in the league.
3) Almost worst offense in the league.

On the other hand, they have a couple of guys willing to fight.

Great game tonight.

Solid move by the Leafs using all that cap space on Komisarek and Beauchemin.

Ah ..., but you have overlooked one very important factor in Burke's blueprint to Stanley - average lb per player. Give him credit, Burke's Leafs are bigger than last year's and have won a lot more fights this season.

Worse still, Burke has wasted the once available cap space on meatballs than talents; in addition to giving a couple of 1st round drafts for a forward who has yet to play.

I can't see this being any better in 2010-2011. Two top three picks for Phil Kessel?
