David Lewington, spokesman for Communications, Energy and Paperworkers local 723M in Toronto, said veteran news anchors Anne Mroczkowski, Laura DiBattista and Merella Fernandez were laid off, along with reporters Marianne Dimain and Pam Seatle.

It's not only Anne, there's many others, this is a major move to let go so many profile reporters. Sign of the times I guess, some real cutbacks in programming as well.

it's the sign of the times for broadcast tv....the premium channels (especially news only channels) are kicking broadcast butt.

How can any advertiser justify paying good money for a 6 pm newscast when anything they are showing has been shown 20 times over the last hour? And weather? There's 24 hrs weather network PLUS online second by second updates on the internet.

Next thing to go are newspapers and if they were smart, they'd be investing in tablet computers so that people can read their stories on the bus on the way to work....

It's the sign of the times.....

Sad news. I hate to see anyone lose their job.

They laid off allot of people today. Not just the people up front, but backroom staff as well. I wonder if revenue was way down (I doubt it) or this is just a case of cost cutting to fatten up the bottom line and the hell with everyone else. Have to agree with Sleazure, this is standard operating procedure for Rogers.

City TV has died a thousand deaths under Rogers. They used to be a unique operation. Now, it's just more and more American shit schlock - so called Reality TV that is anything but reality. Lowest Common Denominator TV.
