I just noticed this article in The Star. Layton is "seriously" ill but is calling a press conference this afternoon to let everyone know he'll continue as leader. I don't care much for Layton's politics but I hope he recovers from whatever this is. If he's fighting a serious illness, you have to wonder what that does to NDP support in the next election. If Layton is known to be in poor health, I imagine fewer people would want to vote for him - at least not until he was seen to be on the mend.

Coincidentally what got Trudeau, hopefully they got it early and it's not aggressive and lots of treatment options are available.

With any luck, he can beat that. Prostate cancer is usually slow to spread but Layton has been having back problems. If his cancer is causing his back pain, it may be one of the more aggressive varieties that spreads more quickly. Good luck to him.

One of the highest cure rates of all cancers if diagnosed on time. I don't think it makes much difference politically as few would consider him a contender to lead the country. The NDP is basically a protest vote right now.

burt-oh-my!

everyone gets prostate cancer eventually

Prostate cancer eventually affects most men, but it is one of the most treatable and surviveable cancers out there. It's not too big a deal.

It's not in the same ballpark as say pancreatic cancer.

However, I cannot see the NDP party forcing an election if they don’t have a full-time leader.

Layton has the same type of cancer which his dad had. Too bad he didn't inheret his dad's intellect (his Dad was a minister in Mulroney's govt).

Nevertheless, I wish him a speedy recovery. Cancer is a bitch. But hey if he can overcome living with Olivia he can beat cancer :D

Take your Saw Palmetto boys and eat tomatoes.
There was a study (British?) published about a year or perhaps two ago that found that frequency of ejaculation was the major determining factor. Seemingly carcinogens build up in the prostate and the more frequently they were “flushed” the less time they had to do damage.

This makes sense since the incidence of prostate cancer rises so quickly with the elderly. I also read of a study which demonstrated that tomatoes and saw palmetto(i think) didnt work.

Nu-life Proactive Prostate support.

This product can be purchased in most health food stores and is great. 2 of these a day....and after 3 days, you're pissing like a race horse. Lol.

My father has beat prostate cancer. It's correctable if caught early enough. My dad is 56 years old, and he detected it 6 years ago.

Jack Layton (59) and Danny Williams (60) are not old men. Makes one step back and think about one's own mortality.

I was about to say spanking monkey frequently to reduce the chance of getting prostate cancer....

I recall there's another study that claim by having frequent sex to somebody you love could decrease the risk of having cardiovascular diseases for both partners.

Try to convince your wife this when she uses headaches as reason not to get intimate. Funny to know she doesn't need tylenol or advil for her headache...

BTW, regarding Jack Layton, I am sure he's going to partisan from the moment he gets clean bill of health, praising Canada Universal Healthcare coverage while bashing Danny "Chavez" Williams for setting bad example by paying and getting his heart surgery in the United States.

Hopefully he'll get well soon.
We need his shrill yellings in the House of Commons and the media for amusement.
