At the end of the day, he is a politician. And he is doing what he is suppose to do, which is to gain exposure. I don't like him based on some of his stereo typical remarks. However, I respect that he got the balls the say what is in most peoples' mind.

Its true, not slander.

Besides, you can't slander politicians, they are public figures. Plus they do it to themselves all the time.

If Rob Ford became mayor of toronto, he would ruin any hope we have of becoming a world class city in playing to the suburbanites desire to punish the city because of their jealousy.

Ford got my vote! City is let down by do nothing and thinking about taxes Mayor Miller. Ford is the only one who is going to cut spending including councillors and eliminate the unfair land transfer tax. Thanks to Miller, last time I bought the home my land transfer tax is doubled. The other candidates says he did it but we can't remove those taxes now. I don't mind paying taxes but it has to be fair and well spent not wasted. I am not saying Ford is perfect but better than the rest of idiots! Smitherman want to compete American style politics which I totally hate. He also learnt broken promises will get away from his ex-boss McGuinty the lying clown.

You're part of his core constituency. I think Ford will be good for Toronto, on balance. We need a rethink of the prevailing believe that incompetence, stupidity, cronyism, at city hall is the inevitably how business is conducted down there. I'm for Ford. Smitherman offers nothing but his presumed, but never proven, superior management abilities...he's a douche.

The trouble with ANY cost cutting mayor is that they have no power over the left wing and unionists that run the city. He would likely end up loosing any significant votes.

BTW, is it just me or does he remind you of Chris Farley.

You may not like Ford, but if it comes down to a vote between Smitherman and Ford, what choice do you have but to support Ford?

Take a look at Smitherman's CV. His main qualification is that he was a senior cabinet minister and deputy premier in the McGuinty government. So, his brand is that he'll be a mayor that can provide:

-- incompetence
-- wasteful and excessive spending
-- higher taxes

And Smitherman's handlers wonder why this isn't resonating with more people.

I don't live in Toronto, so of course I'm not voting one way or the other. I have a couple of thoughts on this though.

First, for those who say he's going to be cutting spending and taxes, could they say specifically what (significant) spending should be cut? Police? Roads? Transit? I'll confess ignorance about the specifics of the Toronto budget, but I'd expect that those are three of the largest cost items, so any serious cuts would involve cuts there. There's a big difference between controlling his office expenses and controlling the city budget.

What's with Toronto voters? Mel Lastman and now, maybe, Rob Ford. Do you really want Ford to be the face of the city? Really?

my thoughts too. a Neanderthal football player type, that will be a bull in a china shop, speaks his mind without always thinking and will undoubtedly have to make cuts to some essential services to make his cost cutting claims to be effective. it goes far beyond office budgets and counselors salaries.

sadly this is probably the worst group we have ever had to choose from. This campaign is only now beginning, i think there will be a lot more mud slinging and many more things coming to light before this is over. can Ford handle the pressure? i believe he has a low boiling point! at this moment i'm an undecided

True based on what? There were alegations, but that doesn't make it true. I'm know there are more than a few people in here that either themselves or someone they know were accused by women of abuse that was untrue. But once accused, it tends to stick to people.
And yes you can slander a politician. Do you think if you were to spam the internet with emails saying the mayor was a child molester it would go unpunished? Many years ago, I believe it was in the Mulrooney era someone accussed either the PM or someone else in that party of being a liar in parliament. That person was challenged to say the same thing outside on the steps of the house. Because the immunity from slander only applied within that room.

So again, you don't like Ford, fair enough.. bash him based on FACTS, not rumours.

I do live in Toronto and could not have said this better myself.

Ford was asked a few times what is his specific plan and has not come forward with one yet.

On CP24 debate when challenged to put his plan on the table all he did was start laughing like the baffoon he is.

Too top all that off he is a bigot though and though.

I'm not a big fan of Smitherman either - so for that and other reasons am going with Rocco Rossi.

Go Rocoo!

You must also then take noite..it was in the paper that he was cleared of all charges.

So to state "Did he have domestic issues"?

Not according to the law!

It would be slanderous then to label someone

Its too bad Rocco ROssi did not have more wind in his sails. He is well spoken....and Im thinking would outduel the other two....

But with Smitherman and Ford way ahead......

Its probably gonna be FORD!!!!

I would be prepared to support Rocco Rossi or Sarah Thomson, if either one moves into a position of viable candidate.

However, the priority is to stop Smitherman from becoming mayor. If that means I have to hold my nose and vote for Ford, so be it.

My thoughts exactly!

I been to one debate in person and watched two on TV. Also am fan and following him on FB. (Rocco Rossi)

He is IMO well spoken, has some good ideas, and to me he won every debate I saw so far. Also I trust him more because he is not a Politian.
Wish there was a way to put more wind in his sales.

(Although there is one thing he has proposed which I don't agree with - selling Toronto Hydro - )
