that quote is always used by idiots like you. trust me son, you are no where near even a fraction of my iq.

yes eliminate bike lanes. i hate all bikers on the roads. take the sidewalk, i dont care if its illegal. just stay the fuck out of my way. bicycle's these days want cars to hit them just so they can settle a claim with insurance. go take the subway if your that poor. and i dont care about 'green' movement, get the hell out of canada and move to the UK if your so upsy daisy about the environment. or go to holland.
So if I pay 5k+ in property taxes a year to live downtown toronto, and you pay 20% less in whatever butt fuck suburb you must live in, you can tell that I can't bike in the city that I pay property taxes in? I say, keep fat bastards like you and Rob Ford from driving on our streets. The risk is too high that one of you suffers a heart attack and dies while driving, inflicting untold carnage on innocent pedestrians and cyclists.

Thank you. I thought I was all alone.
Not at all.

It is true that your poll numbers have taken quite a dive, George -- oops, I mean Dewalt -- but there are still some people who are planning to vote for you.

Go figure.

The big problem with your analogy is that the taxes in the areas surrounding Toronto are 10 to 300% higher than in Toronto.

Again with the unfounded allegatuions. Could you perhaps supply the name of the company that built the 407 so we can have the OPP investigate their illegal activities
Agreed. They sold the right to charge tolls on the road on 99 year leased land for $1 Billion. It's cost taxpayers nothing to maintain or improve that road. That money was used to pay down the debt which saved interest charges freeing up money for social programs.

The rate as a % of assesed value may be higher, but I'd bet the actual tax amount on average is higher on average for residential property than the surrounding area.

To paraphrase wallstreet:

yes eliminate Fat ignorant fucking drivers. i hate all Fat ignorant fuck drivers on the roads. take the transit, i dont care if you take up 3 seats on the bus. just stay the fuck out of my way. Fat ignorant fucks these days want heart attacks just so they can settle a claim with insurance. go out and jog to work if you're that fucking fat. and i dont care about 'neo con' movement, get the hell out of canada and move to the states if your so upsy daisy about the bikes on the road. better yet, move to Texas

Read my earlier post. The 407 today generates an annual $560 million in revenue and $440 million in PROFIT. Sure it doesn't cost taxpayers anything BECAUSE MIKE HARRIS GAVE AWAY A $440 MILLION A YEAR GOLD MINE TO THE INTERNATIONAL CONSORTIUM HE SOLD IT TO. He sold what would have been the single biggest revenue source to the Ontario government outside of direct taxes and the LCBO. Let's see... what would you rather have. A highway that you built but now can be maintained for free, or a highway that you maintain, that generates you a net profit of $440 million? If you choose the first, "Common Sense" Mike or one of his buddies probably pays your salary.

Even ignoring this, 407 ETR is completely GOUGING ontario citizens on its toll rates, for a highway that Ontario Taxpayers built!

When will you right wing nuts admit that the only thing CONs are interested in when they get into government is dismantling it and selling it off to themselves and their buddies to make themselves as rich as possible.

I've read it all before.

Ontario taxpayers paid for the road but sold it at a huge profit which was used to pay down the debt.

Hindsight is 20/20, however it seems that Mike Harris was more concerned about meeting deficit targets AS PROMISED, then gambling with Ontario's first toll highway.

Gouging Ontarians? Do think that a government-owned 407 would've charged less, lol? Let me think. Doesn't our booze cost the most of any jurisdiction? Does Petro-Canada give us Cdns a break in the cost of gas?

We could go on and on about the Fiberals and their paid off friends (E-Health Scandal, Quebec advertising scandal, The National Gun Registry, etc. etc.).

Right wing nuts? Didn't anybody tell you that right is right? ;)

And the Glory Boy for the Conservatives, Brian Mulroney, taking $300,000 then-untaxed cash in a paper bag from Herr Karlheinz, was a good example of what right-wingers should be? Or Harper spending $1 billion of your tax dollars for a glorified sit down which crippled & scandalized Toronto was a good thing? Yeah, this could go on and on as well.

Right ain't right & left ain't right either. Bring back the Rhino Party.

the real problem with his comment is that there are more drivers than bicyclists in toronto. who live in toronto and work in toronto.

Qite right and there is a way to make the roads safe for everybody as well as make traffic move, unfortunatly putting bike lanes on Jarvis St and University ave has nothing to do with either making roads safe for bikes or makeing traffic move, it is designed to cause the major amount of conflict poosible so the politicians can appear and solve the problem.

Right on ! I can't believe anyone is lame enough to defend this decision. The politicians should have been taken out and shot. They have screwed Ontario and it will only get worse for the next 90 years. This is a major artery for the GTA and it will only get more important in the next few years. To sell an asset like this is as stupid as selling all the streets to your own home to a foreign company to collect revenue.

Stupid, stupid stupid. We really need laws in place to prevent elected idiots from selling government assets to the private sector. I thought the US tolls were a pain. It cost less to travel to New York on toll highways than to cross the top of the GTA. Not only do we not have control of the tolls charged for this vital economic access across the city - but we are obligated to enforce bill collection with threats of license suspension.

Stupid fucking assholes - I already paid the highway with gas hikes years ago. Why the fuck am I now paying even more ???? Now another lot of fucking clueless elected jerks are talking about selling the LCBO. This throw back from prohibition shouldn't even exist. So instead of getting my beer at a grocery store like I can in virtually any civalized nation - I will pay $50 a case to an Ontario government endosed Al Capone with our taxpayer dollars providing his 'muscle' ?????

If I was elected king I would round up every dickhead politician that voted for the 407 and charge them with fraud and public embezzlement. Other than an employee of the 407 - who is really dumb enough to support this decision - and are they the same ones that worship Ford ???

Lol? I'm overweight? Really? I didn't know that 210 pounds is overweight, but hey I guess I need to lose weight then. I don't care what tax percent you pay, stay the fuck out of the roads. All you idiots on bikes do is slow down traffic. Everyone is too scared to pass someone on a bike for fear of hitting them, which creates increased traffic. I don't see how you guys can't pay $3.00 and take the damn ttc. Stay on the sidewalk if you want to use a bicycle. Roads are for cars and trucks and Ford is right. I hope so bad he gets in so he can take out all damn bike lanes.

yet once again I am proved wrong by wallstreet: there IS defective DNA in some people's sperm that causes them to be self absorbed and unintelligent idiots. Tell me, have you ever travelled around the world and see how well other world class cities do things like bicycle programs?

Cause it is apparent you don't. After all you love Hamilton and think that cars rule the road. I feel sorry for any children you have that you will pass that flawed DNA onto. Keep drinking the water, hopefully it will eliminate you before you get the chance to breed.
It's sad to see young ones like this on terb, it's funny how you can always pull the idiots from the relevant people so quick. Always engading on using verbal insults but never logic.. sad really. I don't even live in Hamilton you idiot, where are you getting this from? I dont care about how good or bad another city is doing their bicycle programs, if it's so good over there then fucking move there just stay off the road.

Do you CONs actually pass basic math do you start early and give kickbacks to your teachers? The highway was built for 1.5 Billion, but the value of the highway is more than just its construction cost as the land was purchased by the government long before the highway was built. The land the highway occupies itself is worth 3-4 times as much as the highway itself, and the estimated value of the highway and real estate combined at the time of sale was something over 5 Billion dollars. Sure, "Common Sense" Mike didn't actually sell the land. He just leased it for 100 YEARS. Thats 41 million per year on an asset generating 440 million. Yep that's a huge profit alright. For "Common Sense" Mike and his buddies.

Gouging Ontarians? Do think that a government-owned 407 would've charged less, lol? Let me think. Doesn't our booze cost the most of any jurisdiction? Does Petro-Canada give us Cdns a break in the cost of gas?
Being gouged to fund public services or to lower the overall tax burden is one thing. Being gouged to line the pockets of "Common Sense" Mike and friends is another. The Ontario government receives virtually nothing of any of the tolls collected by 407 ETR for the next 90 years. At least LCBO profits go to help fund all other public services like hospitals, infrastructure, etc. And I'm not sure if you've heard... Petro Canada isn't a crown corporation anymore idiot.

We could go on and on about the Fiberals and their paid off friends (E-Health Scandal, Quebec advertising scandal, The National Gun Registry, etc. etc.).

I'd guess being 4'9" and 210 lbs is pretty overweight.

I don't care what tax percent you pay, stay the fuck out of the roads. All you idiots on bikes do is slow down traffic. Everyone is too scared to pass someone on a bike for fear of hitting them, which creates increased traffic
.

I'm also guessing that stopping for pedestrians crossings, old ladies taking to long to cross the street are problems for you as well. Better to run them over than to hold up traffic. Its not the bikes that slow down traffic, its THE NUMBER OF CARS. Why don't you take the TTC to reduce traffic for everyone else? Or better yet, take a bike!

I don't see how you guys can't pay $3.00 and take the damn ttc.
Why pay $3.00 when cycling is free and is great exercise? And if you're going to call me poor... don't go there. I make more than you I'd wager.

Stay on the sidewalk if you want to use a bicycle. Roads are for cars and trucks and Ford is right. I hope so bad he gets in so he can take out all damn bike lanes.
Not sure if you're aware of this but most of the earliest paved roads weren't even created for cars you moron. They were created for bicycles as cars weren't even invented yet.

As for the numbers:

A 1999 Decima study showed that 48 percent of Torontonians were cyclists and 60% of households owned bicycles. During the peak summer months, cyclists in Toronto made more than three million trips per week, including over 1.6 million recreation trips. Approximately 20 percent of the population (388,000) are utilitarian cyclists, riding to work and school, going shopping, running errands or going visiting.

Hmm.... nearly 400,000 cyclists doesn't sound like a token number to me. I'm sure the taxes that number of people generate more than warrant the SMALL number of bicycle lanes that the city has put in.
