Someone hasn't done their homework.

Mario Balotelli looked amazing against Romania, he was unlucky not to score. However the notion of him not being Italian can finally be put to rest - Cristian Ledesma gained his first cap as an Azzurri. He does for Lazio what DDR does for Roma - but I do not see any scrap of Italian in him. Obviously someone in the Portugal camp didn't do their homework, he would have brought stability and toughness to their midfield. If he could not play for Argentina then someone within Portugal should have lobbied to have him wear their colours.

Congradulations to Portugal for their emphatic win against La Furia Roja.

As to my previous post; Ibra is a black belt in Taekwando who likes to kick things.

KLAGENFURT, Austria (AP)

Italy struggled with its experimental lineup but managed to draw 1-1 with Romania in a friendly Wednesday marred by racist taunts directed at Azzurri forward Mario Balotelli.

Stuttgart striker Ciprian Marica scored for Romania in the 34th minute, finding the net from the edge of the box after the ball bounced between defenders Leonardo Bonucci and Federico Balzaretti.

Marica then scored an own goal in the 82nd, diverting the ball into his own net following a corner from Andrea Pirlo. Italy substitute Fabio Quagliarella also appeared to head the ball slightly before Marica's decisive touch.

Balotelli, who was born in Italy but is of Ghanian descent, was booed every time he touched the ball, with the taunts coming from a group of about 100 extreme right-wing Italian fans at the match in Austria.

I'm not going to crucify an entire country but the boo your own player who wants to win for you because he's black, is the lowest of the low.

Becks did you watch the match?

Yes Italy struggled - not as badly as England - with an experimental squad but Balotelli did provide some spark of excitement. Prandelli's tactics revolve around midfield domination , he used this match to assess how much midfield talent he actually has.

As for Balotelli I feel for him; to be vilified by his natural parents then be racially abused by the yellow element is too much grief for a 20 year old kid. The transition to multi-ethnicity is never easy and every country in Europe has it's problems. The yellow element has been frozen out of most Italian parks so they traveled to Austria to vent their ignorance. I've had my own encounters with them and if isolated personal courage isn't one of their strong points. They brought the country to disgrace in WW II and they continue to do so today. Multi-ethnicity has worked for France and is working for Germany; Italy's ethnic groups are under-represented, that must change.

As for Balotelli, Coach Prandelli has already told him that he intends to call him up for Italy's next qualifying match. Whether Super Mario chooses to accept the invitation is up to him - I cannot blame him if he doesn't. The stress of the abuse he endured ate up Jackie Robinson, he did not live to see his 54th birthday.

Here are Peter Staunton's comments...I hope they do come to pass.

Italian 'Ultra' behaviour towards Mario Balotelli is unspeakably regressive and a damning indictment on Calcio

Mario Balotelli may incur the wrath of opposition support with his strops and insolence and even tests the patience of his own fans and coaches with his predilection for amateur dramatics on-field. But there is absolutely no excuse for abuse that transcends ire for a 'pantomime villain' to bile-filled, hateful, ignorant racism. Italy's unsavoury element of 'support' may be small in number but has grown into a malignant tumour on the national team. Balotelli is 20 years of age. He has been a professional footballer only since 2007 and yet his burgeoning career has been blighted by disgusting chants and banners in the curvas, protesting against a black man's inclusion in la Nazionale. It would be ridiculous were it not such a damaging embarrassment to Calcio. No wonder he decamped to England in order to escape the sickening taunts. The player admitted in the wake of the draw with Romania that he is growing weary with the disdain from his own supporters while on national duty. But it is a testament to his intransigence and conviction that he wants to continue to represent the land of his birth. A lesser man may have thrown in the towel only to allow the perverse racist idiots their victory. But Balotelli is made of sturdy stuff. It is more like that he wants to seek vengeance on his detractors by becoming Italy captain and the all-time top scorer. At a time when Italy are crying out for a skilful, physical goalscorer, some of their 'fans' are determined to hound out the best man for the job. Shameful.

The story is that there could be a move to AC Milan for him, if not January, next season.
For the time being he's better of at the Eastlands. I can see your ulterior motives Becks, you do not want to see him tear ManU's ageing defense a new asshole. He got himself red-carded against WBA and missed the derby, United may not be so lucky on the return leg. And how about the gorgeous brace Macheda scored against Turkey; getting dumped prior to the U-21 Championship has humbled him to positive effect.

Roma 3 Bayern 2

I hope Unicredit sells the club soon! The current players are giving everything and the desperately need reinforcements in January.

Yes I'm shaking in my boots that Man City will come to Old Trafford and dominate. Not many teams do as you may know. You need to stop crowning Italian players on early performance and judge by consistent performance. Lets see if f Balotelli can survey in the EPL day in and day out.

Jose Mourinho Admits Real Madrid Were Second Best Against Barcelona

Barça put in a superb performance to play the previously unbeaten Madrid off the pitch and run out 5-0 winners at the Nou Camp tonight with goals from Xavi, Pedro, Villa (2) and Jeffren.

This date will live long in the memory of Barça fans as the team thumped five past their eternal rivals to mark the Club’s 111th anniversary in the best possible fashion. Barça handed out a lesson in football to Madrid with one of the most spectacular displays in the history of this fixture. Xavi and Pedro opened the scoring in the first half and a brace from Villa and final fifth from Jeffren rounded off a fantastic night for the ecstatic Nou Camp faithful.

Barça find themselves two points ahead of a team who on the night they showed themselves to be light years ahead of. As the fans’ mosaic before the game put it: ”T’estimo Barçá!”

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho says it will be easy to come to terms with the 5-0 loss suffered at the hands of Barcelona in el Clasico because the Blancos were not simply good enough at Camp Nou.

Barca jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and never looked back en route to an emphatic win to send them top of the Liga standings.

"One team played very good, one team very bad," Mourinho commented in a post-match press conference. "One deserved to win and one deserved to lose".

"Humiliated? It's easy to deal with this loss, we just weren't good enough."

Barcelona now have a two-point lead over the Blancos in the Liga standings.

Most poetic of all is watching Mourinho on the receiving end of his own rhetoric. Payback is a Special Bitch, is it not, Jose?

Ronaldo confirms his status as a whiny, petty child by shoving Guardiola around in response to his misguided sense of entitlement.

A peasant born shall a peasant die.

In one word, embarrassing. How does Real not show up to the biggest match of the year? The German midfielders didn't bother to show up. I think the importance of this match got to them. They looked out of sorts. Benzema proves to me again why he is on the bench at Real. Not one shot on goal. Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi couldn't be stopped with their passing and control of the match. Marcelo showed today that against a world class team, he's no defender. Other teams will exploit him if a change isn't made. Saying that, if Barc keep this form they have to be considered the favourites to win the CL. But anything can happen.

The football pundits are missing something; the best player in the world (for 1/2 a decade) is neither Messi nor C Ronaldo, it's Xavi. And as long as he maintains his formidable skills Cesc Fabregas will remain at Arsenal. Why ruin chemistry.

C Ron is starting to look like football's Eric Lindros; physically he has talent to spare, mentally he gets lost whenever he's faced with a defender he cannot physically dominate.

Xavi is the rock but Messi is the talent. Cesc will be his replacement in the future. There is a 7 year gap between their ages. Iniesta makes them one of, if not the best midfield around.

CRon, is no where close to being like Lindros. He's actually has a professional trophy collection, including the CL and the Ballon d'Or. Plus you can't put the blame on his shoulders when the Real Madrid midfield where totally useless against Barca. And don't get me started with the back four.

You're preaching to the Catalan Choir, my esteemed colleague. If FCB were the Stones in 1972, then Xavi is the creative catalyst Mick Taylor was between Jagger and Richards. Cesc will be at Camp Nou much quicker than you might think.

This is the essence of CRon when true colors show themselves:

Agree with Becks, Pep acted a little silly as well. No biggie in my books.
Don see the following link on Barca's finances
http://swissramble.blogspot.com/2010/08/whats-happening-with-barcelonas.html

The writer is an Arsenal fan. Look around his site and you will see a similar financial analysis of Arsenal. My point you ask...Barca can't afford Cesc and Arsenal doesn't need their money...ohh and Cesc is signed for until 2014 or 2015. Cesc will eventually go to Barca but only when Arsenal decide to sell and at Arsenal's price.
Perhaps not as soon as you think.

There is a greater chance of Gareth Bale moving to Juventus then Cesc moving to Barca. The Zebras have a new stadium almost ready to open and coach Gigi Del Neri is a wing attack specialist (look at how Milos Krasic has thrived in his system). There has been a turnaround with Andrea Agnielli at the helm (after 7 years of John Elkann's tepid leadership) this could be his way of putting his stamp on the team.

This is such a preposterous rumour that it may actually become reality; after not selling Maicon to Real in the summer Inter may actually sell David Santon to Arsenal in January. I was hoping that Lucio could become the sorcerer to Santon, Donati and Rannochia's apprentices, but under Benitez that's not going to happen. Although I'm against one of our blue chips going to the EPL; Wenger may just be the coach to develop his talent properly. Two years ago Mourinho had enough confidence in him to allow him to mark C Ron on his own but Benitez has left him on the bench.

Which poses the question: Isn't egg noodle (Sagna) getting the job done?

Note: The proper Italian name for egg noodles is tagliatelle, but if you're in Rome and you ask for a plate of sagne with a procini ragu they'll know what you want.

I heard this rumour, but I don't see much in it. Sagna is doing well, probably Arsenal's most reliable defender with Vermaelen being injured. Would really like to get Lucio but who wouldn't. Benitez is not the best at developing young talent. I think the Spurs would be a good fit for Santon, he could walk right into Hutton's spot and would make them legit title contenders.

Hey Von, how about that aging Man Utd defense shutting the gates on Arsenal last night. Great tactical move by Fergie to control the match and leave Arsenal without a clue. Park frustrates me to know end. He works his ass off but has little skills and then scores the key goal. Back to the top of the table with one game in hand and Chelsea coming up. A result against Chelsea will put significant distance between them.

Other news, Tevez has threaten to quit football if Man City do not transfer him in January. A fall out with Mancini and having his estranged wife back in Argentina with his two girls has prompted him to request a transfer. Word is he wants to make a move to La Liga so his wife will move there as well. She hates England and would consider a Spanish speaking country. Man City threaten to sue if he quits.

I find it funny how all the Man City strikers, Tevez, Balotelli, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, and Joe are all unhappy at Eastlands. I guess money can't buy you love.

That won't last. Chelsea has had Man U's number in the past few results and it will be difficult for even a point at the Bridge. The Blues should have beaten Spurs last Sunday if Drogba doesn't miss that penalty.Plus, Chelsea has had many injuries to key players, which are slowly coming back. By the end of this Sunday United will have company. C'MON YOU BLUES!!
