By no means do I think he's Sid, but will he win a Hart? Score 50 to 60 goals? He's looking pretty good right now.

throw in a few more quality players and he will be a more dominant player sooner than later.

I saw Tavares play in Milton, in tier 2, and you could see then that he was going to be a very good player.
To answer the question, I do not think he will ever be a Crosby, but he could easily be a top tier player in the NHL.

I should have taken adavantage of the opportunity to see guys like Tavares when they were playing in Jr cause for the price it's would have been worth it .. Now if you want to see him play your going to have to dig deep into your pockets .
Go see the current up and comers. There should be some gems that you may once again end up regretting not seeing.

Who is the better player right now: Tavares or Logan Couture?
Difficult to say because Couture plays for a much better team. I give the nod to Tavares anyway.

True but Couture has made the Sharks a better team as well. The reason I asked was because Couture was to be the # 1 pick by Oshawa going into junior in 2005. Then Tavares was granted an age exemption & allowed to enter the draft. The Gens drafted him & Couture was so pissed, he told teams not to draft him as he was going the US college route.

Tavares will never be a Crosby or Ovechkin or even Stamkos type player. I just don't believe that he'll ever develop the speed required to be in that caliber. I can see him developing into more of a Hawerchuk/Robitaille/Shanahan type pf player, but with better vision and more upside. Iginla's talent and consistency, but softer.

So, yes, dominant and more than likely a multiple time Maurice Richard Award winner, but will not hit the level of the others mentioned above.

...And he's proven (since entering the NHL) that he has the work ethic required to survive in the league. He has more natural ability and better hands than any of those players that I mentioned before of him being in their class, but he's shown in his young life that he an be quite enigmatic as well.

I think with Crosby so fresh in our minds we forget that not all dominate players show dominance from day one .. Henrik Sedin didn't become dominate until 5th to 6th season ..

Tavares stats 54 , 67 and so he is progressing ... Steven Stamkos had allstars on his roster to help him ... Who has Tavares had ...

enigmatic is the term you use ... You could be right but couldn't that be the result of coaching changes and constant roster changes from the Islanders .. Although saying that ... I am not married to my opinion cause I am just looking at stats and really have only saw a handful of games ... He is off to a great start and so I have a wait and see approach ... Lets see how he does with I say the best roster he has had since coming into the NHL ..

Steve Y at one time was close to be traded and so it doesn't always come instantly ... But can also become the next Jason Spezza who some critics compared him to at times ..
He was accused before the 2009 draft of being lazy and that almost led to him being bumped from the number one ranking. I think he took that personally and has worked hard since being in the league. Before that, he had been used to people jumping through hoops for him in his hockey career so he acted like a bit of a bitch. However, he's also been a bit of a hot head throughout his life and has had conflict with teammates. IF he can get all of that cleared up with maturity AND has a healthy career, I will say that he will end up as in the top 15 all time for scoring.

In fact, here is a bold prediction:

By the time he has completed his career (assuming that it is a healthy one with no severe injuries that cause him to miss an entire season or more) I predict that he will have over 700 goals (close to 800) and over 1400 points.

Now everyone set your calendar reminders for 17 to 20 years from now (those of you that will still be alive) and let's see what happens.
