Yonge street between Hillcrest (just N of Sheppard) and the 401 is an absolute nightmare during rush hour. That intersection, and entire neighborhood actually, is a perfect example of how to not build condos. About 10 towers that all use one road to exit onto Yonge. Plus, that one stretch of Yonge has about 6 traffic lights in about 1km. I agree that the city has no idea about traffic and city planning.

Wait. They're still building more condos there.

There's one other that is confusing as hell.

If you're driving eastbound on Lakeshore and you want to turn north on to Bathurst.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?

You have to change lanes into this chute that makes you feel like you're driving on the wrong side of the road. Add to that the general confusion of the intersection once you get there.

Key Rist.

Westbound 401 and Weston Road.
Mainly because traffic jams caused by road construction that's been going on for about 5 years and nothing ever seems to get done.
Why does it always seem to take years, and years and years and years for highway crews to finish fixing whatever it is they're fixing.
Government must be supervising it or something.

The University and Gardiner on-ramp is now a disaster. Used to be you could make a right-hand turn from either lane but now the city in all its wisdom restricted turns to the right-hand lane only and the cops sit there shooting fish in a barrel. The cops are there at least 2-3 times a week picking off people.

But what really makes it a horrendous intersection is the pedestrian crosswalk which severely limits the number of cars that can make a right. If the cops are going to ticket the cars making illegal turns then they should start ticketing the pedestrians who cross when the hand is flashing.

Anyone here like the idea of roundabouts?
I like the idea of them, but there are so many bad drivers in Toronto it would probably create more problems than it would solve. I've driven all over Canada and the US, and by far the worst place I've driven is the GTA. And that includes Los Angeles, the Bay Area and even NYC. I'd say Vancouver is a close second, but GTA has the worst drivers. I'm not sure exactly why that is, but it is...

Although quite simple to use and quite popular and effective and efficient in Britain, may not be suited for Canada.

You need to have a brain or at least some common sense, both of which are non existent in too high a percentage of the population.

Pedestrians would have one less place to cross as the traffic flows continuously.

The construction must be staged in order to allow construction to keep moving. Sometimes as much as 8 stages. This means doing everyting 8 times.

It would be far simpler to just remove and replace the bridge in question at Weston Road in 1 shot, but closing the 401 is not an option.

The work would have been designed by an Engineering Consultant in the private sector, constructed by a private sector Contractor, and supervised by a different Engineering Consultant, again in the private sector.

There's a new roundabout in my neck of the woods and so far the jury is still out. I really want to see how it holds up when traffic gets really busy because so far I've only used it with light traffic. But even then, you've gotta be watching very carefully because people blow right through the yield signs and I've seen a couple near accidents.

Okay, I don't understand how they need to stage all their work, all I know is that on a visceral level the work around Weston Road seems to drag on forever.

And, the bridges over the 401 at Hurontario St. and Mississauga Road have both been replaced or at least substancially upgraded over the past couple of years and this work was accomplished at warp speed compared to the slow pace of everything at Weston Road.
