Fuck him! What a nerve he has to make an excuse to extort more money from us by rounding up! Bastards should not be allowed to do this. They'll save millions in time by eliminating the penny.

So what is people supposed to do now with all those jars full of pennies at home?

Not many places take them or they charge commission to take them

What baffles me is that we are getting rid of the penny (which I agree with, I hate those things), yet gas is still sold by the tenth of a penny

Who said anything about rounding "up"? The standard that has been used in other jurisdictions, and that has been spoken of here, is "Swedish rounding". And that only applies to a final total on straight cash transactions. Seriously, untie your knickers...

I get around.
I like being penniless!

A few weeks in and I really like not having to deal with pennies when handed change back and as far as I can tell, every instance has been rounded in my favour.

If you are incredibly cheap you can opt to pay by credit when it is not in your favour and gain an average of 1.25 cents per transaction. Do that twice a day for 17 years and it's like getting a free 30 minute session at an incall!

cash transactions will be rounded up or down depending where it lands. .01 or .02 will go down and .03 or .04 will go up. that is the way it is stated on the information posted at stores.

I've seen some places stop accepting pennies too. Say paying with 5 pennies instead of a nickel. There's no hard and fast rule on it; some continue to accept them as good customer service, but apparently they are not obligated to.

They weren't obligated to before the Mint stopped issuing pennies. They can specify what cash they will take in transactions. That's why businesses can refuse to take $100 bills.

There are lots of Bank of Montreal branches that have coin counting machines, I think it's no charge under $250, if you have more than that it's 8 %, less than coinstar, if you chech their website it will show you which branches have em.
