I was just in California with my lady and experienced some really nice romantic restaurant along the coast.

One resto was right on the beach with views of surfers and seals
Another was on a mountain top, with amazing views and a huge fireplace (bonfire like) in the middle of the resto
Next one was an outdoor restaurant where they wrap you with giant blankets and you sit outdoor surrounding a huge bonfire...

Restaurant in Toronto so far pale in comparison to these....I have been to George, Spice route, Auberge du pommier, Canoe, fifth grill and the likes....

Does anyone know of any resto gem where one can have these cozy and romantic restaurants in GTA and surroundings??

I'm more interested in the food than blankets to wrap you up in, or views of a beach. Usually places like that are all about the bling and short on the food.

If you want excellent food, you'll find Toronto has plenty of choices. If you want beach views, or mountain views, or big blankets - well then no.

Sorry if my earlier reply sounded harsh.....it was not meant to be.

Thanks for the replies.....I do not question that we do have some good chef and wide variety of good food......

I'm just looking for a nice cozy, romantic where I can just relax and not worry about the people sitting at next table...so far my search continues....
Balwin St is the type of feel I am going for or Rectory cafe at Centre island....it would be surprising that TO does not have such a resto.

Since Toronto isn't on the Pacific coast, try the next best thing: The Miller Tavern with its lovely view of the parking lot.

You're joking I hope.

Old school Greek Steakhouse with gawdy red velour and dark wood paneling left over from 1972 is intimate and cozy?

Pass the garlic bread and pickles....

To each his own Kirk. Ive taken many clients , friends, and dates there and never had a single complaint. The service is impeccable, and the food is exceptional. It may be a little old school but I think its far better then some of these over priced, pretentious restaurants that serve variations of the same thing and seem to open and close at the blink of an eye. It was open during a more elegant time when you actually got dressed up for dinner in a suit instead of a baseball cape and skinny genes.

I will second David Duncan House ... very nice :)

La Castile is certainly old school, but in the evenings I have enjoyed the piano bar. Food and service is fantastic, even if the decor is somewhat dated.
I would add Via Allegro to this list.

I like the tables that are designed so that you sit beside your date, not across from her.

In the corner
In the west end Piatto at Dundas and Mississauaga Road is quiet and romantic, no views but great food.
