We can always rely on a union to do something like this.
This is a very interesting situation and/or strike.

Remember what Ronald Reagan did when he fired all of the air traffic control workers. All of them.

Here, what we really are dealing with is a bunch of clerks.

If they fire all the clerks, then hire new ones, who is going to notice? Certainly not the consumer.

Funny, I was thinking about that when I posted. One of the things that I take issue with when public service unions are running their self serving ad campaigns is their claim that they "provide" these services to the public. They do not. The buildings are owned/leased by the public, who pay for all overhead and capital investment etc. The union people are employees only, and if like the TO garbagemen, they push the public too far, then fire them or privatize the jobs.

In this labour dispute, I think the union has no leverage.

Booze and beer, may be staples in this country, just like bread and hockey, but clerks in the liquor do not provide an essential service.

Are these guys bluffing? What exactly is the LCBO workers union strategy?

No beer for the playoffs?

Screw the monopoly on alcohol in Ontario. It's just another tax for the government to piss money away. I don't want to go on a political tangent but beer runs to Quebec have made it worth the 5 hr drive there. If you live in Ottawa than the lcbo strike doesn't matter but if in Toronto than you have to make it worth your while.

I've been known to come back with 11 cases of beer only difference is I paid $55 for a 48 pack of bud of cans which would cost alittle over $80 per case

I have a better solution. Everybody just stop drinking. Their sales will go down, they'll all get laid off, we'll all be healthier and the government will save a ton of money on alcohol-related expenses (drinking and driving trials, health care, assault, and so on...).

I don't care one way or the other if they strike or not. I haven't had so much as a sip of alcohol in 8 months.

You obviously abused alcohol and have a very unhealthy view of it.

And you are obviously an alcoholic. I'll have to resort to my grade school psychology, but it takes one to know one, right? Anyway, I'd rather be boring than a drunk.

If they do go on strike, will the boutique wine stores in the supermarkets also be closed? I have never been sure if they are part of the LCBO. I always take a bottle of wine to SP and MPA sessions so I guess I better stock up.

I drink to make people like you interesting!

As for going on strike, that's typical of overpaid union cashiers and shelf stockers. They're no different than someone who works at Walmart or Home Depot, other than the fact they make twice as much. Bunch of f**king babies as far as I'm concerned.

The LCBO MUST retain it's rediculous profitability.
We have e-Health, aborted power plants and Ornge to pay for.
Just more dis-equalization money transfer to the rich and connected.
