There are some people who have an allergic reaction to it. That happened to me twice and I was ill, lost my voice and coughed for a month the last time I had the shot. Not all people benefit from its protective effects. For those who have no issues, go for it.

As said in every flu thread to date , the fact you don't get sick doesn't mean you don't carry the bug and pass it onto others less fortunate to have your resistant.

Never had a flu shot... never plan to. Perhaps that is why I rarely if ever GET the flu. My body has over time, built up its own natural resistance to flu strains.

Which of course just means you've not shown the symptoms, but you may have carried it and passed it on to others less fortunate, well done.

Thank you!

(Talk about being COMPLETELY presumptuous...)

Whatever... :hand:

And if I had? Good for me. I am aiding them in building up THEIR natural immunity as well!

Talk about being completely ignorant.

Following you thinking then, when there wasn't any vaccines, when people were actually tougher than any of us are, did so many people die of influenza, small pox, measles. Vaccines have saved millions of lives over the last 100 + years.

Diseases like diphtheria, measles and polio are making a comeback, because some folks think the vaccination isn't really needed.

When influenza vaccination programs became common place, the occurrence and deaths rates plummeted. This was all pointed out past threads, but apparently you don't care to remember.

Not presumptuous at all.

It depends on the flu strain. Some kill primarily elderly people or those who are otherwise already weak. Some kill primarily young and healthy people.

The Spanish Flu epidemic was so terrible primarily because it was mostly healthy people in their 20's to 40's that it killed. The current h1n1 strains also have this capability, fortunately the vaccine we have stops it, so it won't spread that far.

But the idea that the flu only kills the elderly and the weak is wrong. That is true of most seasonal flu, but not true of the flu in general. Some strains are far more virulent.

Didn't get one this year and am quite sure that I had H1N1 over the New Year because I had the flu, and it is the predominant flu strain this year. It knocked me off my feet for about 4 days, and it has been reported that H1N1 has that affect on people. Just the THOUGHT of moving my body a few feet made me tired. However beyond that it was just like any other flu that I have had, and I am over it.

vaccines should be mandatory.. not optional
...so should competence and the ability to make good vaccines and we have all seen that this is not the case. Unfortunately they are not held to the same standard as in the past. Just look at some of our family doctors and the shit they put us through or the many mistakes they make. From my experience, good ones are very rare to find. Given the many negative side affects reported and my loss in confidence in our system I choose to take the selfish approach and not expose myself to their incompetence. If the flu shot is so fucking important make it mandatory! Why are you on terb then and not part of the system that can make this change or make this mandatory. I have no doubt in your intelligence level to do this. There is a difference in saying this or takin the action and steps to make this happen. Obviously it's not as simple as it seems and they know that there are deficiencies in doing this.

What exactly do you base this claim on? From what I have read, current vaccines are much safer than old ones and the rates of severe adverse reaction are next to insignificant. The risk of a sore arm, minor rash or a day of minor fluish symptoms pales compared to being knocked on my ass for days or even worse, my parents or young nephew.

Medical knowledge at its best.
Agree with the sarcasm.

And for another Terbite who said he doesn't like chemicals in his body, the flu shot is not a toxin or pollutant, but a benign strain of the more popular flu bugs to the south. The flu shot uses the body's immune system to build a tolerance before the real bug infiltrates, thereby preventing or minimizing sickness from it.

I always get the flu shot and it has prevented or minimized the effects of any flu in the season.

When I didn't get the shot, I would get sick for days when I caught it.

Clearly you aren't that good at math either. Nothing I posted in this thread is wrong. If you feel so, feel free to show us where. I suspect you won't even try and I know for certain you won't succeed.

You ignorance on this subject just shows no boundary.
