I'm aware of the criminal sentence you mention. I am surprised it hasn't had more of a deterrent effect.

Sharing (nude) selfies is just part of the narcissistic lifestyle for many 20-somethings.
The fact that they're in the public eye and 'famous' is why this is gaining attention.

I'm not really sure how much a Jury will buy into due diligence in a case like this (some sites are indeed doing the best they can and taking them down as soon as they go up).

Then again juries can be strange.

Going out in public is one thing ~ yes they're celebrities. Being intimate with their partners is another ball game and it truly is a huge invasion of their privacy.

There are far too many people who think "the laws will protect me". The only laws that are consistently reliable are the laws of physics (e.g. gravity).

These are A list celebrities. They either think the laws (or security firewalls) will protect them, or that noone would bother seeking nudies of them.

I believe the issue is twofold: she stored them in a private place, hacker stole them (took them without her permission) further she makes money from her image and hacker didn't pay her for them. Then you add the specifics of the various computer crime laws violated.

As previously mentioned the last hacker who did something like this is currently beginning a ten year sentence in a U.S. Federal Penitentiary.

If I was going to do this, and I have no plans to... at least with my face in the pics, why put them on a cloud server? They are out of your control at that point. Not condoning the hack, just enjoying the images :biggrin1:, but if they are my pics, they would stay under lock and key with me and not on an outside site.
