AAPL Stock hit a 52 week high of 108 today making the company worth $633b...That is exactly the reason that if I was a shareholder I would be pissed ! I would not be pissed that he is gay, I would be pissed that he made being gay an Apple corporate issue. They sell equipment & software - not morality !
I thought he was doing very well with Apple (dropping lawsuits, picking the best features independent of who had them first, etc) but this is a stupid self-centered admission to make if he is CEO of Apple. My guess is that he isn't that stupid - either it was coming out soon anyways or he was being blackmailed.
The problem is that apple has negotiated with many governments that for their own reasons are anti-gay. You are putting public pressure on them to distance themselves with Apple if it appears that Apple suddenly is a pushing western values.
I could see someone being proud to live in a society where they are not afraid to admit who they are. Not very headline friendly though. No one should be proud to be gay. No one should be proud to be straight.....
No one should be proud to be gay. No one should be proud to be straight. Or male, female, black, white, Asian, tall, short, or any other trait that is not under a person's direct control.
I can understand being proud to overcome the challenges of being a minority, but the pride comes from your character, not from your background.
Now all the Chinese women under his serf labor are screwed. A Gay man has been enslaving women in China that could make babies.Tim now has immunity from ever getting fired, unlike that guy from Mozilla.
It's not peculiar to say, "I'm proud to be Gay". After all this time hiding and being ashamed of his feelings it's good he can be honest and openly proud of who he is. A straight person never had to make this declaration. What I find peculiar was his statement: "I'm proud to be Gay."
If someone said I'm proud to be straight. Or I'm proud to be pure laine, would this be met with the same sort of blasé response by the media?
It's one day. Any market interaction will not be apparent yet. I'm sure you will remember how Apple was pummeled after news was released that they were loosing market share to Android. Things take time. Nobody knows what the impact of Tim's weaving his sexual preferences into the Apple corporate identity will do.AAPL Stock hit a 52 week high of 108 today making the company worth $633b...
LOL
Pride is the opposite of shame, so many live in shame I think Tim was taking a stand that there is no reason for that shame - I say good on him, and when Larry Page or Zuckerberg's wife comes out I'll say the same thing. No one should be proud to be gay. No one should be proud to be straight. Or male, female, black, white, Asian, tall, short, or any other trait that is not under a person's direct control.
I can understand being proud to overcome the challenges of being a minority, but the pride comes from your character, not from your background.
I'm saying it's not an issue of pride or shame. If you make one valid, you automatically validate the other option.Pride is the opposite of shame, so many live in shame I think Tim was taking a stand that there is no reason for that shame - I say good on him, and when Larry Page or Zuckerberg's wife comes out I'll say the same thing.
I wonder if it is good business to mix business with morality. I know that is something that governments do, especially the municipal government of Toronto. For example, I heard that Toronto only buys trains made in Canada even if more expensive and only gives contracts to companies that overpay their employees like Toronto overpays their employees. Doesn't make business sense to pay more when the same service or products is available at a lower price. And it's about time major corporations DO start to take a stand on moral issues and ALL important issues of our time.
Nobody has ever been shamed and brutalized for being straight. What I find peculiar was his statement: "I'm proud to be Gay."
If someone said I'm proud to be straight. Or I'm proud to be pure laine, would this be met with the same sort of blasé response by the media?
This^^^^^^ what I was trying to say.Nobody has ever been shamed and brutalized for being straight.
Theoretically it is nonsensical for someone to be "proud to be gay" but given the context, it means "I'm gay and there is nothing wrong with it despite what a lot of ignorant haters would have you and I believe"
Saying you're proud to be gay will make it easier for others to come out and show us they are normal people - moving the issue forward in a big way. Hiding isn't healthy.I'm saying it's not an issue of pride or shame. If you make one valid, you automatically validate the other option.
By all means, be proud to stand up for gay rights. But pride in being gay doesn't move the issue forward in a meaningful way.
Wish the same advice applies to my needs forSaying you're proud to be gay will make it easier for others to come out and show us they are normal people - moving the issue forward in a big way. Hiding isn't healthy.
Made me smile - thanks. The most surprising thing here is that Samsung hasn't come out as saying they are even more Gay and Google hasn't said they've always been gay, in fact they are promiscuously gay without protection....
Obviously like most other large international corporations - they are a little more business savvy that to peddle morality issues. The most surprising thing here is that Samsung hasn't come out as saying they are even more Gay and Google hasn't said they've always been gay, in fact they are promiscuously gay without protection....
