Anyone gonna be upgrading to Windows 10?

It's available today for free upgrading. I think I'll wait a while (it's available for free for a year) and read about pros and cons, before deciding.

I had Windows 7 before.
Mine too.
Did you have any problems with device drivers or lose any programs, data, desk top icons, etc,?

Thanks, FAST

Can you partition the drive and still keep Windows 7? I remember some members switched to Windows 8 and wish they had kept Windows 7.

No, if you want to free version, it is an upgrade of your existing Windows.

Apparently, some people are getting a useless error message when they upgrade that says "Something happened" with a Close button and that's it. I think this is more for people that want to download Windows 10 to a USB or DVD first.

I'll let all of you try things out first.

I'm still using Windows 7 on almost all of my computers, by choice. The issue with new versions of Windows is not usually in how they work as a platform for new software, the problems usually emerge from compatibility issues with drivers. That's what stopped me from moving past Windows 7. Windows 8 would simply not work correctly with a number of peripheral devices on my computers.

I'm not prepared to replace these peripherals just to look at a new skin for the operating system. There would have to be major performance improvements/new features to make that worthwhile.

One of my (several) computers still uses WIN98 due to the specific purpose and software loaded on that computer (audio recording).

YEP,...hardware drivers is the main concern for me also.
Had to scrap an expensive scanner and a printer due to drivers issues going to Win 7.

On a side note,...governments now charge to dispose of electronics,...as above,...why not "force" manufactures to make drivers available,...at NO cost,...I'm not that type of programmer,...but one would think it would not be a big task for them.

I'm with Bud Plug. Currently there are no specific performance, feature or bug fixes in either Windows 8 or 10 that would encourage me to upgrade immediately. I'll wait for the SP1 release to come out (~4-6 months) and then decide.

Win10 is does have a few features that definitely interest me:
- DirectX 12, but apparently the feature isn't turned-on yet. DirectX 12 with appropriate video drivers promises 20%++ improved gaming performance. That's huge!
- Better OS clutter and trash management. To keep Win WIN7 at peak performance you need to wipe your drive and reload everything every 1-2 years (depending on how you use your computer). Hate that! Win10 claims to have resolved this.
- Improved PC search engine - the one in WIN7 is pretty crappy
- Improved Command Prompt interface (including use of cut/paste - yeah!!)
- Multiple virtual desktops. I run dual monitors, so I can see allot of value in this.
- Improved Start Menu

I realize there are a ton of GUI improvements, better tablet support, new browser, face/retina scan, storage analyzer, Xbox App etc. but don't really care about those at this time.

OMG!!! Manufacturers would then squeal like stuck pigs, how gov regs are killing them by "forcing" them to do something that easily benefits the common good!
Manufacturers prefer the present unregulated status quo where they can "force" consumers to buy new devices compatible with a new OS every time that occurs.
