They don't do it . I called them when my friend want to sell a diamond ring, but they laughing and told is not in their profile. So don't hope to get help from the police. They want to charge you not to help you.
Depends who you asked. I know for a fact that 32 division does it, but the operator answering the police lines knew nothing about it. Call the division close to your place.

In London, Ontario, cops have said their parking lot is available for Kijiji meetings/exchanges.

Two last questions: Do I have to register to post an ad? (Doesn't appear so.) How long does the ad stay up?

I've bought and sold items via Kijiji. Never had an issue.

Like others have suggested, never get anyone to come to your home. Never agree to meet anyone in anywhere but a public place. Tim Horton's parking lots work well. Lots of people around, numerous convenient locations, and its a good bet there's a cop nearby, "just in case".

Criagslist and Kijiji have been similar for me. Sold some small stuff over the years, never a problem with someone who commits to buying. I've only bought one thing.... a small table. Again, no problem. Was legit.

The problem is that you'll likely get a bunch of people inquiring, who will never get to you when you respond. Then you have guys who will always ask for a cheaper price.

But for all people who I went back and forth a few times committing to price and time, never had an issue. The guy always showed up and paid.

I don't think you have to make a formal profile for Craigslist or Kijiji. Your ad stays up for 45-60 days. You get emails from them saying to renew the ad when it's approaching the deadline.

You can also pay CL and Kijiji to keep your ad at the top of the page every day.

Cl seems to be a dying site btw. I wouldnt be surprised if they were bought out one of these days

Yeah, I notice there is a fee structure if one wants greater exposure. I think free is fine as any fee I pay reduces the proceeds from the sale. Even worse if there is no sale and, therefore, no proceeds.

Don't bother with paying for ad space..... unless you are so desperate to get rid of it and the thing is worth a decent amount.

Kijiji gives you occasional updates too as to how many people have checked your ad. CL doesn't.

Whatever you sell, just duplicate the ad in both CL and Kijiji.

One thing about these places is that after your ad expires, it will eventually be dead if you don't reactivate it in time..... you won't be able to reactivate the ad. So you'd have to start from scratch the ad again. If you think your product may take a bit to sell, cut and paste a copy of the text in Word and save it.

So just in case you forget to reactivate your ad, you can then re-paste the text into a new ad instead of retyping it all again.

I made that mistake years back. I was selling a DVD home theatre system. So I had to re-type the best description I could again..... number and type of inputs, model #, and some other fancy specs I had to dig up again.

I've sold many things via Craigslist and Kijiji. No need to pay for ads to sell items anymore. I've sold anywhere from a $3 shirt, to luggage, to stripper gear (including a stripper pole!), to high end handbags, to furniture. Yes, I got a few dumbasses offering ridiculously low amounts, I learned quick to just delete those. Also got some interesting responses when selling stripper gear, needless to say. Learned to ignore those quick to. I have a separate email address for selling things, and I never use my real name. With both sites, you can remove your ad at any time if you sell before it expires. All in all, I've had positive experiences.

Oh, yes, good point Ami, on the separate name issue. As with all things Web driven, create a fake persona for this activity. NEVER use your TRUE identity! Can't stress this enough. Similar to your hobby activity... create a fake one mutually exclusive from each othere. You never know how things can be traced back to you.

In my experience it has posted within a few minutes of hitting the post ad button.

Question: How long does it take for an ad to receive approval so it can be posted?
After you make an ad, they will send you a en email to the email address you type in. In order for your ad to show up, you have to press the link in the email to activate it. When you press the link to activate it goes up right away.

You should receive this link email literally seconds after you submit your ad for approval.

I sold some furniture for $100. Two guys in their 20's came to my house to pick it up. My 16 year old son was home with me. They tried to haggle and I said no. They paid and left. This was before the Tom Bosma, murder, so if I did it again, I would still make sure my son was home with me. No way would I do it alone or just with my wife. We contacted by email and then cell phone.

Yes I have bought and sold stuff.

I typically arrange to meet in public locations like a mall or chapters or Tim Hortons etc.

Expect lots of lowballers.

One last question: How do potential buyers contact you, by cellphone, email, etc.?
Your choice you could use email or cell. I use email.

Sometimes via email you get their real name. One time for a large purchase of 1K I googled the guys name and found that the guy did live in the GTA and had a job associated with the item in question.
