I like the no interest thing on the mortgage though. Wonder if I can start an Anglican housing project. Who would ever agree to finance such a project? Oh wait Saudi Arabia would

its worst than the conventional mortgage, actually this halal mortgage is a scam and it would end up costing more to own a home.

Bending the rules a little to make home ownership easier, sounds great, nobodies asking for a handout.

An ethnic community banding together, hasn't been a problem in the past (cabbagetown, little Italy, China town, Russian and Jewish neighbourhoods).

Not saying it's a right, but it seems to occur naturally for some reason.

I have absolutely no issue with the 'Sharia compliant' loans.

The issue is in enforcing the common rules. I know that some associations/condos include an agreement to abide by certain rules but I don't know if they would be able to enforce rules that go against owner's charter rights.

I know condos can enforce things like no wreaths on doors or no pets. Don't know if keeping women from wearing shorts would be allowed.

There is no problem when ethnic communities form neighborhoods, as you say. But there is a big problem when the laws and customs practiced in those communities go against what Canada stands for. I reference you to what is happening all over Europe, and elsewhere, in Muslim communities, as the original poster suggested, but more particularly, to Gavin Body, who is a Barrister in London, England. He has done extensive work in this area and exposed what happens in reality. I cannot remember his website, but if you google him you will find it if interested. Dare I say it, but Muslim communities behave very differently than Irish, Asian and others. And the source of that problem is in their ideology.

From the article : "We are here in Canada. We came of our own will,” Selmoune said in an interview. “Our intention was not to come to isolate ourselves from society or from the community." Yet by segregating themselves and developing their own rules (modest clothing for women as an example) isolation is exactly what they're proposing. I hope Quebec doesn't put up with this bullshit.

I'm completely against it too, this is not a plain area like a Chinatown, it will end up like the many no-go areas in Europe. Police/ambulance/fire depart get assaulted in many of these Muslim areas. Malmo the third largest Swedish has been overun by gangs throwing grenades all over the place.

For years European authorities have denied any problem with Muslim immigration, but now crisis is exploding and is getting worse, with the number of so called “no-go” areas in Sweden rising, says Ingrid Carlqvist, editor-in-chief of Swedish newspaper Dispatch International.
A recent report suggests Swedish police are failing to control the country's suburbs following the creation of as many as 55 so-called 'no-go zones'. The police have reportedly been verbally attacked when trouble flares in the areas. A number of incidents have involved officers being pelted with stones. Vandalism, drug crime, and sexual assaults are also reported.

The Swedish public is on edge after a gunman who injured at least four people in the city of Malmo remains at large.

RT: All the risks are listed on a leaflet issued by Hungary. The pamphlet claims hundreds of completely lawless 'no-go zones' exist in Europe especially in Sweden. However, the Swedish embassy in Hungary has dismissed Budapest's claims - saying no such areas exist. Do you think these leaflets are an exaggeration?

Ingrid Carlqvist: No, it’s not. This is just semantics. The Swedish authorities don’t want to call them ‘no-go zones.’ They think that ‘no -go zones’ is place where no one can enter. But that is not what normal people mean. They mean that the ambulances can’t go there without police escort. When the police come there, they will get stoned and people will try to set fire to police cars and so on. They are lawless areas – and that is what people call ‘no-go zones’. No normal person would ever go inside there.

Another hand grenade attack shook central parts of Malmö overnight – the latest in a series of explosions rocking Sweden's third largest city this summer.
Malmö has been hit by more than 30 explosions since the start of the year. At one point in July four grenade attacks were reported in under a week. Last year, a total of 25 blasts took place in the city over the whole of 2014.

All I can say is that if these areas do get established in Canada and become "no go", then we better be prepared to invade , round them up and send them home or toss them in jail, same as we do for other criminals. Justin of course will want to talk to them to see what the underlying root of the issue is...

There is an area about 15 blocks over from me that has a pretty large Mosque. The owners of the apartment buildings in a 3 block radius will not rent to anyone that is not of the Muslim faith...period. I know this for a fact. It's not talked about much, and they make it very uninviting for Westerners anyway, but that is the simple fact.
