Those goals are nice, but not a practical choice to be making as a pro. Goals scored from the dirty areas are the best and on the score sheet, G doesn't stand for Garbage, it stands for Goal, no matter how pretty it is.
I get 63 and change.
He's played 31 games and has 26 goals=.84/game.
If he misses no more games (he missed 6) he will play 76 games x .84 gpg=63.8
Still damn good in today's NHL.
Better than OV this year. When it looked like Crosby was slowing down. Damn! I hate Crosby but I give him respect.
The days when LaFleur, Bossy and even Vaive would come down the wing blast one into the net from 50 ft out are gone. Not many players score like that anymore because the goalies are much better these days. Stamkos and OV may the last of a dying breed.
I will say the goalies stop more pucks.
The question is, is it because they are better or (IMO) much more significantly, because they are bigger, plus bigger equipment.
Check out this pic of the Gumper. Compare him to the size of the net compared to nowadays. Goalie now must cover about 50% more net simply due to bulk.

The game has evolved as well as the goalies. The players themselves are a lot faster than a generation ago and seemed to be more skilled and as everything is pushed to the outside and forwards actually come back defensively, those outside shots seem fewer and fewer. They really only happen on odd man rushes or 1 on 1, when the player knows he's not getting to the inside because of the positioning of the D-man. Most blasts from the point usually hit someone on the way to the net too.
I don't understand why they don't make the net bigger? Or, impose a size limit on the goalies (probably too discriminate).
It seems that most puck carrier try to pass on a 2 on 1 and mess it up. When I played I would just blast the puck at the net about 80% of the time.
Yeap, smaller guys like Ed Belfour & Grant Fuhr would not be successful in this era.
I'd start with making the equipment smaller.
With newer materials like Kevlar, which is thinner and ultra protective, there is no need for blockers, catchers, leg pads, shoulder pads to be as large as they are now. The goalies may complain, but with more scoring comes more fan interest and the bigger bank account will help that bruise heal quicker.
Making the net larger may be too radical. Maybe a small change like an inch or two taller and 2-3 inches wider.

Matthews becoming the franchise centre the Leafs knew he will become. But his not the true number #1. :bump2:
Not sure if glam is being sarcastic or not but some obnoxious poster, who unsurprisingly got banned, kept railing on about how Laine was the true #1 pick, not Matthews.
