Roseanne had three questionable tweets this week and she's done the same thing on 3 previous occasions in the last few months. All three times she's promised to stop tweeting, but didn't. IMHO, These weren't comedic based tweets. She has a long history of questionable attacks against black women.

I liked her shows, both the original and reboot - nor for her, I'm a fan of Dan / John Goodman. The new show is doing well in the ratings. The original show was (rumoured) canceled because of her constant fighting with cast and production staff. Apparently she's a real bear to deal with. Maybe Insidious Von is correct and she has a mental illness? I researched briefly and read some innuendo, but nothing factual.

I agree with b4u that comedians get a little more latitude when "in character".

Not sure where I stand on all this, but the situation sucks!
I agree with you about Goodman and the rest of the cast.

They should just write her out. Sudden car crash and decapitation.

Let the show continue without her. Opens up a pile of story lines.

I completely understand where you're coming from but I would respond differently if you made fun of my appearance vs making fun of my race. Once comes from insecurity while the other comes from hatred.

You get the last word Phil make it good! :)
I think they both suck shit, because neither a black person nor an ugly person can do much about their looks.
You can't turn Kathleen Wynne into a supermodel, is what I'm saying

If you do mock someone, make it funny at least.

And no, I wont have the last word. You have it, you crazy Nederlander

I believe that the show is called "Roseanne", not "A typical mid-western wife and mon"

It is pretty hard to write the title out of the title.

Could never watch more than a few minutes because I never found Roseanne to be that funny. I think killing off her character would be a viable option to continue the show. Think of the possibilities too. You could handle it seriously for a couple episodes or go for comedy by having her die in a dark, comically ridiculous way and the family has moved on one year later at the start of the new season. You could make a lot of great storylines around her death and Goodman could carry the show, with a host of new women who would enter his life now that he's a widow. You could rename the new season: "Life After... Roseanne".

Roseanne probably just ended her career with a stupid joke tweet that really comes across as racist. She quickly apologized and said she would leave Twitter.

her tweet read “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,”

ABC cancels "Roseanne" after Barr's racist tweet

ABC Cancels The "Roseanne" Show After Twitter Meltdown

Update: Shortly after her show was cancelled by ABC/Disney, Roseanne Barr got more bad news when her talent agency also announced it was dropping her: "We are all greatly distressed by the disgraceful and unacceptable tweet from Roseanne Barr this morning," ICM said in a statement Tuesday, according to Variety.

“What she wrote is antithetical to our core values, both as individuals and as an agency. Consequently, we have notified her that we will not represent her. Effective immediately, Roseanne Barr is no longer a client.”

Roseanne has been barred.

In the aftermath of last night's bizarre meltdown by Roseanne Barr, in which she slammed everyone from Chelseal Clinton, to George Soros, to Chris Cillizza and Hillary Clinton in rambling, racist tweets, it was only a matter of time before ABC announced it would cancel her show. It did that just moments ago, with a brief announcement that "Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show."

Disney CEO Bob Iger chimed in, saying that "there was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing."

The decision came hours after star Roseanne drew sharp condemnation for a tweet on former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, whom she compared to a child of "The Planet of the Apes" and the Muslim Brotherhood, and after saying that "George Soros is a nazi who turned in his fellow Jews to be murdered in German concentration camps."

On Tuesday, a Soros spokesperson responded to the claim that he turned in fellow Jews to the Nazis, while stealing their wealth: "Such false allegations are insulting to the victims of the Holocaust" and "an affront to Mr. Soros & his family, who against the odds managed to survive."

Barr deleted her tweet about Jarrett not long after posting it. She followed it up with an apology which read, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”

According to Variety, the revival of the classic sitcom was set to air a 13-episode eleventh season this fall. The move represents a remarkable turn of events for the network, Barr, and a show that finished the season as the No. 1 scripted primetime television series in the 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen live-plus-same say numbers.

Just two weeks ago at ABC’s upfront presentation, Barr introduced Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood, joking that he was “the guy responsible for most of my tweets.” Sherwood and Barr hugged onstage, and the the exec noted that ABC had not had television’s No. 1 show in 24 years. Dungey, during her portion of the presentation, bragged that “The premiere ratings even took us by surprise,” claiming that 1 in 10 Americans has seen the “Roseanne” revival premiere.

Roseanne has yet to make a public statement; it was not immediately clear if any other network would be willing to pick up her show.

Why ABC has not pulled her shows earlier is beyond reason. Roseanne Barr has retweeted stuff from media like the racist Infowars in the past with regards to illegals as well as Muslims in the USA:

"And then there are the full-on conspiracy theories. Barr has retweeted InfoWars reports on the “5.7 Million Illegals” who they baselessly claim voted in the presidential election. She shared a YouTube video titled, “CONFIRMED: SCALISE IS AT THE SAME HOSPITAL THAT TOOK OUT SETH RICH,” as well as various other Seth Rich-related bulletins. She’s shared articles from The Gateway Pundit and Milo Yiannopoulos’ website, as well as Alex Jones videos. She shared a link that promised to expose “Kamala Harris’ Dirty Sex Secret,” and she’s retweeted transphobic comments and tirades against supposedly violent “Muslim Migrants” that blare, “Americans Don’t Want these Savages in our towns!”

She has said some real horrific stuff about the Jews although she is supposed to also be a Jew:

"If Barr’s evolution from political outsider to card-carrying Pepe is an understandable—if disturbing—trajectory, her positions on Israel mark a complete ideological 180. Prior to her Trump Twitter takeover, Barr was perhaps most infamous for a photo shoot in Heeb magazine titled “That Oven Feelin.” In the shoot, the Jewish Barr posed as “Domestic Goddess Hitler,” showing off her Nazi armband and pulling burned “Jew cookies” from the oven. While the shoot was eventually pulled from the Heeb website, rest assured that Roseanne’s Hitler spread really puts Kathy Griffin’s latest antics into perspective. Barr has long played fast and loose with accusations of Nazism; in 2009, she wrote a blog post in which she called Israel a “Nazi state.” Two years later, she deemed the country to be a “brutal and undemocratic theocracy…which has the world’s fourth largest army.” She also denounced “the ethnic cleansing that is happening in Gaza right now,” continuing, “I say it’s the entire world’s fault, not just Israel’s and not just the Jews’, for allowing the terrible crimes against humanity.”

So comparing her to other celebrities is like comparing Apples and Figs.

She is a Trump supporter (rare in the entertainment field) and I'm sure Trump has saved some of her tweet material for his next rally. The show made money and I'm guessing Trump has already pushed to get her on Fox so that he can get a popular show that is not trashing him on the air. They have a bigoted, lying racist president and they can't have a TV show with an actor that privately sends the odd racist tweet ?

A weird country down there.

But ask how Sarah Sanders thought of being mocked in front of a live audience.
Then ask how that black woman thought of being mocked on twitter.

I'll bet there wasnt a whole lot of difference in how they both felt.

If you're gonna call one, you gotta call the other. Otherwise you have a double standard
Sarah Sanders had it coming.

Is it really a "double standard"? Wolf mocked Sarah Huckabee Sanders' looks, specifically her lazy eye and she got slammed for it. Did she cross a line? Maybe she did AND she got slammed for it. But her attempt at humour was totally race neutral. Anybody can have a lazy eye - Sanders, Forest Whitaker... Now, in what planet would a comment of "Muslim brotherhood & Planet of the Apes had a baby = VJ" be considered race neutral? Calling a black person an "ape" is racist. Pure and simple. There is no explaining this away by equating it to Wolf and there is NO double standard.
As far a second race goes, the "joke" runs deeper. While VJ has black ancestry, based on her wiki, it appears that she is primarily of Iranian heritage, hence Roseanne's Muslim brotherhood mention.

Much depends upon who owns the rights. If Rosanne Barr owns the rights, I can quite easily see the program being taken to pay per-view with far greater income to the cast.

If Wanda Sykes, doesn't wish to participate, so be it.

Ah, so making fun of someones appearance instead of their skin colour makes it OK then??
What about making fun of a national anthem?? I guess Trump would approve of it and watch her spit at the end. It makes the football players who knelt through the National Anthem look like Saints in comparison!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgSIFG_SceA

Watch her explanation as she justifies her insult to the national anthem. Trumpty Dumpty is unusually quiet about this whole affair.

It is hard to believe, that there are people here on Terb, who are defending somebody calling black people apes. This is Canada for crissakes, not Alabama.
