What bad driving habits on the road really irk you?

I have not read the whole thread, but the driving habit that irks me the most are people in cars, when making a left turn, first turn their wheels right to make a wider circle for their left turn, as if they are driving an 18-wheel truck. There is no need to go into right lane next to you to make a wider turn left turn. You should be able to stay in your lane and make a left.

Along with that, I hate when the car in front of me in the left turn lane barely enters the intersection and sits until it is clear. Many times that is not until the light turns yellow. At that point they are the only car that can make a left.

I often drive in the left lane at 130 kph with the cruise on and have someone come up on my tail who obviously wants me out of the way. I used to move. At least half the time, I would move back into the passing lane to pass someone and come up behind the same dolt who was tailgating me at 130 but now he is doing 120. And guess what? Right, he won't move.

But they're not all like those idiots. And it sounds like you don't move over anymore for anyone by that "I used to move". The left lane is solely for passing, you shouldn't be cruising there at any speed if it's safe to move over a lane, whether there's a car behind you or not.

Yep, I don't get it, and it's dangerous. I've had to take evasive action quite a few times because someone in the left-turn lane has moved back partially into the through lane to make their left turn. Doesn't make any sense at all.

I agree with you that the left lane is solely for passing in theory. In practice, I will move over if there is a long open space in the adjoining lane but if I will be passing again in a few seconds, I stay put. Used to be I would move into an opening to let people by. I don't do it any more.

don't. know if anybody said it yet, but I hate drivers with big dogs in their laps while driving. I don't know why the cops don't crack down on this, which is distracted driving in my opinion.

Ah, I see. Well, that's not so bad.

I honestly just try to be as courteous as possible on the road. It can be a high stress environment for some people, which means tensions and tempers run high. I try not to contribute to it, even if I'm "in the right". If someone signals their intention to enter my lane, I'll give them room. If someone is coming up behind me at a higher speed than myself, I'll move over even if it may slightly impede my own progress. I don't speed up when someone tries to pass me (those who do drive me nuts!). And similar things. Ego is not something we need on our roadways.

Constant lane changing in heavy traffic, tailgating, high beams, approaching a T junction at too high a speed, failure to signal. People are also driving really fast these days, some crazy speeds.

My Toyota has auto headlights.
The basis of the problem is wiring logic.
We have daytime running lights and the instrument panel lights come on with the DRL's.
At night when you start your car the DRL's and instrument panel lights up and you think nightime headlights are on but they are still in daytime mode.
The cure is to dissociate the panel lights from the DRL's.

the clowns at Toyota have not fixed this for YEARS, meanwhile they have black toyotas driving with no tailights. The insurance companies should charge more for this nonsense. Most Euro car makers have figured out auto headlights.

Driving in the wrong lane. Though in a way this is understandable, since there are multiple places on our 400-series highways where THE DRIVING LANE TURNS INTO AN EXIT WITH NO WARNING!

What year and model do you have? My sister has a 2010 Corolla and the lights are fully automatic. As in, it's impossible to drive at night with only the DRLs on.

It has auto headlights, but I don't use it.

Trucks are the worst. It drives me nuts when you are on a two-lane section of Hwy 401 or another highway and they insist on pulling into the left lane to pass another truck that is going 2 km/h slower. They're in the left lane and they block traffic for the next 2-5 minutes while they pass the other truck. So annoying.

I hear ya! Sometimes I feel that they do it on purpose.

Now let me get this straight. You don't use the auto headlights so it's possible for you to forget to turn on your full lights when it gets dark? What's wrong with leaving it in the "auto" position? Like I said, my sister's car has no auto on/off option. They come on when it starts to get dark and go off when it's light. It's foolproof!

One time stood out where I went to the movies and the lot was full. Of course, one ass was parked so they were taking up two spaces. Naturally, the car was modded with a "D'you think he's trying to compensate for something?" spoiler.

I was almost tempted to hang out and see if the driver was some Jersey Shore reject as I was betting with myself.
