'Heroes' aren't interested in money ... they would do it for free so maybe they are actually over paid. ... maybe we are insulting them by paying them at all.

They are doing what they have to do just so they can survive but instead of paying more for those mundane but essential services we need, we tell them they are heroes. I'm sure when they are short of rent or grocery money - the 'hero' label will make everything better.

The poor and middle class when they get more money in their pockets they cause the economy to boom.
They might save up and buy a car or become a first time buyer of a house.

Rich guy who works 4 days a week hides at home and does zoom meetings to work
Poor guy who lives with 4 other roomates, rides a crowded bus to his 2 part time jobs, and is called a "hero" for exposing himself to covid.
Rich guy gets paid full salary and has reduced expenses due to lack of commute & extra perks (eg ordering himself new office equipment for home)
Poor guy has fewer busses running so needs to stand outside in the cold longer and board even more crowded busses during the pandemic
Rich guy hires personal workers for his elders and those workers live with them and therefore are under strict quarantine
Poor guy has dad in a home, is not allowed to visit said home, and STILL has an outbreak at home which kills father who he finds out was neglected for weeks
Rich guy approves of Ford passing legislation preventing lawsuits re covid deaths
Poor guy wants to sue the home but is not allowed
Calling underpaid, exploited, overworked workers "heroes" is not enough; we have to walk the talk. We must respect them by raising their wage to a reasonable sustainable level so that they in turn can make the economy moving away from a definite recession. This is our actual responsibility.
It's certainly not my responsibility. If you want to pay them more, that's fine with me.
I will admit i did chuckle at this LOL When i was watching the news this came about and this https://toronto.citynews.ca/2021/02/01/barrie-long-term-care-covid-lawsuit/ was after Ford tried screwing the families of suing. Does this mean they can't sue ?

That's a myth , It has always been increasing , the rich want us to feel sorry for them when minimum rises. Not I.
They're obviously not actual heroes. Every human being still deserves some kindness and respect no matter what they do. Doesn't matter if they are stacking shelves, delivering or handling your food, cutting hair, flipping burgers, hauling the trash, mopping the floors or toilets, at the cash register, etc. I think most people get it, but I have seen clerks being verbally abused by customers. Surprisingly, I haven't seen any anti-mask rants yet. The rich (meaning most of us here) need to learn to take a step back and breath if a clerk does or says something that we don't like.
Remember, the so-called controversy over Geoffrey Owens? He was one of the stars of The Cosby Show, but disappeared. The only reason we found him again was that someone decided to take his picture while working as a jab at him I guess.
Shouldn't that apply to ALL people we come across? Kindness without pity is a very old concept- one of the very few of any value to come out from Far East.

There have been some horror stories in news (eg people dehydrated since left alone for days or those laying in pools of feces and urine)
Also the one that makes me laugh the hardest about the situation is:

Coles Notes Version: old age homes do not want to pay decent wages + benefits. Can't find any locals to work, and begin importing foreign workers from places like Philippines and Domenican. The migrant workers (being poor) all live in group apartments (search apt share on Kijiji, we have like 5 or more filipinos in a 1 room TO apartment) and then being underpaid end up working at multiple long term care homes (and part time at all of them) so as soon as a single covid case pops up, the person transmits it to multiple old age homes and multiple roomates & weekenders
Old age homes care more about shareholders and profit statements than looking after old people
All covid did was PROVE this to a generally ignorant public
(the healthy old snow birds who are financially well off had no issues paying extra thousands to cross US border and many extending their US / tropical stays to avoid quarantine hotels and other nonsense)
