Lot of those books were published in the 50s/60s...I'm sure we are all doing things now that in 60/70 years will be deemed culturally inappropriate...our problem now is not being able to see into people's minds 60/70 years in the future...pretty unfair for Dr Seuss's legacy.

I guess if I ever get arrested for a crime I'll just blame it on Dr. Seuss, Mr. Potato Head and Loony Tunes.
....or Kate Smith...89 years after a recording the Philadelphia Flyers were shamed into removing her statue.

Loved Dr. Seuss when I was a kid in the 70s.
Now it's time to wait for all the SJWs to come here and lecture us about how Dr. Seuss needs to be "held accountable".

The push is on books like these as the new children's classics.

So-called "cancel culture" isn't just the politically correct variety.

Conservatives in the US, for example, have been practising "cancel culture" for eons -- long before the term "cancel culture" ever became popular.

Rock music, gay rights, women's rights, equal rights for minorities, workers' rights and a secular society are all example of things American conservatives have fought pretty hard to "cancel".

So I have a book of Theodore Geisel's WW2 Political and Propaganda Cartoons. Before the kids stuff.

Yup he was as racist as the times were. Especially against the Japanese. And by all accounts continued it after. People are flawed, so was he.

Beyond that the rights holders have the choice to withhold publication as they own them. This is no different imo than Disney cleaning up some of its back catalogue, including Song of the South, Dumbo and Phantasia, or since 9/11 no one shows Rambo III. And it perserves the rest for continued enjoyment.

All of those things were cancelled? Oh, btw, the Republican Party was born out of the anti slavery movement, was responsible for ending it.

Man the outrage over these things are insane. This is a Fox News wet dream. It's really a distraction from the real important things going on in the world.

I'm not sure what the racist stuff is, but can they not re-publish the books without the images? Or is it the wording? Either way, things that were not even considered inappropriate 50 years ago are now. Why are conservatives so against change?

But this whole cancel culture stuff is just....man, ridiculous. What it boils down to is right-wing people don't want to face consequences for saying shitty things. The all go on about first Amendment blah blah blah, but really, all that says is the government can't persecute you. Doesn't mean everyone else can't shun you or not publish you, or carry you on the TV or radio.

True. They were. Then came the great shift in the 1950s/60s where the GOP became super conservative and fought against things like civil rights. Right now they embrace white supremacy and are trying to engage in widespread voter suppression against minorities. They've only won the popular vote in a presidential election once since 1992....

Actually, the Southern Democrats fought, tooth and nail, against desegregation. And right now, the "white supremacy" only exists in the minds of the lefties. Not only the Trump led Republican Party became the party of the working class, but it made an concentrated push to reach the racialized communities. Hence the "white supremacy" panic among the Democrats.

No, but the far-right in the US sure tried hard to do so. And your commentary about the US Republican Party ending slavery, while true, is at the same time an extremely weak argument.

If you knew your history, which you apparently don't, 155 years ago the US Republican party was a party for national unity, whilst America's Democrat party was largely made up of pro-slavery Southern Democrats. After the US Civil War, the Democrat Party swept the southern states due to the Republicans being the "party of Lincoln" that ended slavery.

Throughout most of the 20th century, the Southern US continued to support the Democrats, which had become a party largely embraced by the poor and the working classes. In 1964 Lyndon Johnson, a Democrat, signed the Civil Rights Act, which effectively ended any support from white southerners the Democrats had.

The Republican Party saw an opportunity to win votes by appealing to southerners' racism and launched the Southern Strategy to do so -- and they succeeded.

So, in short, comparing America's Republican Party of today with America's Republican Party of 155 years ago is absolutely ridiculous and shows you don't have a clue of what you're talking about.

JC, what's the % of blacks voting for the Dems again?..... A little under 90%? Or is it a little over 90% in the last election.

Surely the Black voters know who's looking out for their best interests.

And yup, the "Dixiecrats" fought against desegregation and the Northern Dems led by JFK ended it. And that split the Dem Party and led to the Southern Dems leaving and becoming GOP. all back in the 60's and 70's. 50 years ago. Long time back there.

And what's your idea of a "concerted push to reach the racialized communities"?...... 30 or 40 people with Blacks for Trump placards strategically seated behind the stage, so it looks like the Orange Guy actually might give a shit about them?!

More snowflake communists complaining that a company will no longer publish books they likely never heard of. How dare corporations have the freedom to decide what's in their best interests!!!

Obviously Fox news is on the pulse of the American public, more concerned with cartoons and toys than they are about jobs and illness.
