Personally, this dude is my current role model!!
But with Trump in charge, he probably doesn't think he needs the military the same way. That's why I think he doesn't start building up the forces in 2021 if Trump wins.
He has other approaches he can use and would only start building up if those aren't working because Trump is too incompetent to get Putin what he wants.
We will never really know, since it is a counterfactual.

The prevailing theory - well supported by facts - is that he thought that Zelensky was not supported by the bulk of the population and that the Ukrainian army would not fight and would immediately surrender and demand to rejoin their Russian Slavic "brothers". The "anti Russian elements" in the Ukrainian government at all levels could then be show-trialed and murdered and Ukraine would be reannexed to Russia. Lukashenko would then resign and sign Belarus over to Russia and The Poo could start direct pressure on the Baltics and Poland and build up his armed forces for an invasion.
It is believed that the Russian hierarchy is filled with toadies and grovellers and The Poo was never told the truth that the Ukrainians would fight back hard.
Fox news didn't see it as fake and the clip from CNN is identified and explained how it was missused in this article, the threat was there.

Multiple FOX reporters ON THE GROUND, broadcast on the same network reported the exact opposite. Is Carlson or Hannity (?) going to text someone to FIRE them?
I am happy that Civil law is being applied rather than criminal or regulatory law. Nothing like a couple billion dollars in punitive civil lawsuit damages to put a fine point on it!
