Amsterdam is half the size of Toronto in terms of land area. So you're wrong there.
Amsterdam has 20% more population density than Toronto so you're wrong there again.

Bike lanes work in Amsterdam for various reasons.
Bike lanes don't work in Toronto for various reasons.

Are you following along here? Too complicated?
Bike lanes work great in toronto, people ride all year long downtown.
This year they started plowing some, this will continue to get better.

The 401 is the busiest highway in all of North America.
The NDP proposal to pay fees for trucks to take the 407 and bypass the city would be the smartest move to fix the biggest congestion problem in North America without building a single highway and for way, way less.

But the right wingers won't back it because the idea came from the NDP.
Somehow you think it's bright idea to shoulder the fee for the trucks to take the 407...Do we have unlimited funds only you know?

How are you going to add anymore lanes to the 401, when we already have approximately 6 and sometimes 7 lanes? That is not going to ease the traffic congestion. In Europe they have more disciplined driving than we do in Canada, that speeds up the traffic in less lanes. You do not pass on the blind spot lanes. Once cars pass then they pull over into the slower lanes and that moves the traffic more smoothly on their highways. But we have a 407ETR that is underused in all respects thanks to the screw up by The Provincial Mike Harris Conservatives. The province could have still owned it and charged a reasonable fee like they do in the USA and several other countries around the Globe.

Then they should move out of the city and travel by Public Transport. We have a pretty poor public transport infrastructure as compared to the UK, France and other EU Nations. But Dougie Boy wants to waste more cash on totally irrelevant Highways, that are causing a stir among residents in that vicinity!!
407 underused? You may want to check the stats on that. You would be surprised.
Adding lanes in areas where there are usual bottlenecks would help congestion.

You mean the NDP party is proposing to pay the fees themselves out of their own party funds without depending on taxpayers to do so? Wow that's great!

"I'm going to ride my bike from Scarborough to downtown in a snowstorm" said no one ever.

Listen, Amsterdam is slightly more than 1/3 of Toronto area wise. But the population density is only marginally smaller than Toronto!!
The fact is that Amsterdam has proper bike lanes that are well maintained during winter, unlike that of Toronto!!
The fact is that Amsterdam is a very old city constructed around the idea of water transport (for freight) and has very little of its precious below sea level land to commit to roads. It has bike lanes because there is no room for cars anyway. Is the result nice or pleasant? No. Just walking across a street in Amsterdam is a harrowing experience! It also makes for very inefficient delivery (unless the business is on one of the canals). Luckily, there are no hills for cyclists when all the land is reclaimed from the sea.

And the number one export of the Netherlands - refined petroleum products! That's not very environmental, is it, Beav? At least they haven't let their own lifestyle limitations blind them to the needs of the rest of the planet.

BTW, number 2 is pharmaceuticals. Figures, as probably everyone there is on anxiety meds!

Amsterdam is a fun place to visit BECAUSE IT IS SO ODDLY LAID OUT. Like a funhouse. It's a good example of WHAT NOT TO DO for modern cities.

p.s. It's considered good luck to throw your bike into a canal in Amsterdam. Thousands do it every year. Maybe that should tell you how much the citizens love biking!

The fact that we have to is only because the conservatives sold off the 407 in the first place.
Which do you think is cheaper, building the 413 or paying truck 407 fees?

You are so uninformed in your cozy inner-city slum.

It will work with existing highways so that routes make sense and are better connected.
You think they're just building a new highway beside the existing one redundantly? Lol! You are so lost in your bias and hatred it's making you look stupid.

The proposed 52-kilometre Highway 413 and transitway will extend from Highway 400 (between Kirby Road and King-Vaughan Road) in the east to the Highway 401/407 ETR interchange area in the west, connecting the regions of York, Peel, and Halton. The project includes a 4 km extension to Highway 410 and a 3 km extension to Highway 427 for a total of 59 km for the corridor.
The highway would have 11 interchanges at municipal roads and features such as electric charging stations, service centres, carpool lots and truck inspection stations will all be explored as part of the design.
The transitway would be a separate corridor running alongside the highway dedicated exclusively for public transit, such as buses or light rail transit.

Go ahead, prove your claim.
You made it.
Bevr said it was under used...he can prove it since he made that claim.
Why don't you just watch from the sidelines rather than interjecting into other's posts? Just like you sit at home collecting welfare and pretending to contribute to society?

We have to pay for the trucks because Mike Harris sold off the 407 and Ontario can't decide who pays fees anymore.

So what you're saying is that bike lanes in Toronto during the winter are useless?
Thanks for agreeing with me on that.
You are confused as to the difference between snow and winter. It is only when it snows and it sticks around for a few days is when the bike lanes become an issue.
Not the whole winter. You are really catching the bull by the tail.......typical Skoob!!
