Not exactly an '
ancient Chinese secret'... anyone can do it.
The reply window has a formatting toolbar on top. To use it, select the text, then click the B for Bold, the
I for italic, the
U for underline, the 'teardrop' to see the text colour options, or the T to change the point size. I could also select a different font for the text with A, but I think only Ceiling Cat does that regularly. He used to post everything in Comic Sans, but that font is no longer available on TERB.
All of those options could also be done by typing manual html tags. That's what I have to do on the DaFont message board; it doesn't have formatting tools, only a selection of emogies.
I don't make fonts for a living, but I do make professional quality fonts as a hobby. The only one which earns me any money is
Cabbagetown. It's free to download and free for personal, non-commercial use, but I negotiate a licensing fee for commercial use. I get somewhere between $10 and $300 USD from each deal, depending on the extent of use and the size of the client.

This is actually a four frames per second animated .gif saved as a video.
