Economists would say there is a risk cost to extending your supply chains and investing in countries with higher risk. For example, American manufacturers had been underweighting the risks associated with investing in China.
This doesn't even consider the impact of extended supply chains during 2020-2022.

There is no such thing as NATO spending.
At best you can find (although not in the document you linked) defence spending on common infrastructure.
Now, almost everyone in NATO is going to increase defence spending, since the world looks increasingly unstable and countries also need to guard against increased belligerence from the United States along with it being a less-reliable defence ally internationally.

He has now taken a more measured approach to tariffs as it has become a political demarcation with Trump's policies. Sanders has not walked back his support of tariffs in general.
In today's political environment, tariffs are best described as populist policy. Populist elements exist in both U.S. political parties and often their policies overlap.
You can question how Trump is using tariffs. You can question if his approach with Canada is fair and reasonable. You can call him whatever you prefer. However, it's not accurate to state tariffs are a right wing policy tool.

Firstly, these articles are very very old and Bernie's only beef is trading with countries like China and Mexico, who do not pay fair wages, NOT countries like Canada where our minimum wage is above that of the US. The only mention of tariffs is made regarding Trump, not Bernie.

I've said repeatedly that you can deem Trump's tariff policies with Canada unreasonable.
The point is you can't oppose tariffs as right wing policy. They are not strictly right wing policy. That's all I said. I did not defend a specific tariff action.

Here's the thing. I remember 35 years ago when NAFTA was going through. The Tories fully backed NAFTA (which, of course, eliminated tariffs on imported goods on trade between Canada, the USA and Mexico). The Liberals and NDP were rabidly against NAFTA.
My point is what is "left-wing" today could very well be "right-wing" tomorrow and vice-versa. Liberal and Conservative viewpoints are fluid and everchanging and always have been.

That happens. Trump is not exactly a Reagan Republican, but he shares a lot of Reagan policy perspectives and there are other issues he does not.
One can hate Trump. They can also passionately consider themselves to be left wing. I just wouldn't get take a deep dive into the broader tariff debate beyond the U.S.-Canadian situation. I heard from so many people how Trump's China tariffs were so bad in his first term (including here) then Biden retained them.
I personally believe Trump is going too far with Canada. I'm not sure why. Perhaps he is try to fuck with Trudeau.
