sympathy means compassion which even Buddha preached
empathy relates to liberal virtue signaling of feelings and emotions
don't forget the famous words of your previous leader
"people experience things differently"
Kirk's brand of sympathy would be feeling regret as he sent gay kids off to conversion camps, and trans people to asylum for lobotomy and electroshock therapy.
Empathy is a far better definition of compassion that helps people. Trying to understand someone is the highest form of compassion.
And what's wrong with acknowledgement of feelings. Seems to me his supporters are primarily concerned with Charlie's followers feelings here. To not acknowledge feeling as part(not whole) of the conversation about Charlie's ethos, and his impact on people is ridiculous.
Hurt people enough, threaten their existence, deny them dignity, and this type of violence is the result.
Kirk was polite, reasonably well read, and came into this at 18 with honest intentions to his own belief system. And intelligent and well organized enough, with enough charisma to become a "face" of the New Right. But he reminded more of the Preacher from Footloose than a true follower of Christ. He saw the Old Testement as valid. And any sympathy he had was reget the fallen couldn't be saved to his narrow minded ethos, and so need to be left behind.
He is, quite simply, the type to turn his own gay child out the street, rather than embrace them.
