I have never subscribed to Twitter. My mind either isn;t sophisticated, or simple, enough to get much value out of a 127 words. Or how many they are up to now.
And let me point ot a fundamental flaw in your premise.
Not only is it hard to look up a "certain type of garbage", it is sometimes impossible to find the certain type each of us is lookiing for.
Algorithm's feed us what keeps our eyeballs engaged.
And those same algorithm's that stalk us by fingerprinting (cookies are for amateurs) our computers and deeply analyzing our browsing also make it hard for our searches to find anything outside of what we already are interested in according to the algorithm's.
I don't watch cable news and I don't spend much time on Twitter. Twitter doesn't recommend political stuff to me. It is more likely to suggest an escort's Twitter page.
My point wasn't actually about how easy it was to find garbage though. My point was there a lot of right wing and left wing propaganda (aka garbage).
PS- BTW, I'm pretty sure the algorithms are good at linking people to their interests including garbage and escorts.

When I turned in my guns for destruction many years ago, rather than sell them, I did so because I never wanted the risk that MINE might be the ones to kill or hurt someone or some thing. I would gladly, and did, give up my 'right' to firearms in Canada and would 100% support laws reducing the prevalence of guns in Canada. I did so at a cost of probably $25k as I had a couple of nice engraved Benelli trap shooting guns, a MacMIllan 50 cal in addition to a half dozen handguns and bunch of other misc rifles.
However, the US is beyond any recovery when it comes to guns. So IF I lived in the US, I would definitely own a self defence short barrel shotgun and a concealed carry small frame 40 S&W. In fact, probably 15 years ago when I had a place in Florida, I got a FL DL and took the CCW course and had a nice little cheap compact 40 cal of some sort I bought at a gun show. Ended up being a PITA to carry and secure and the places I frequented were hardly dangerous areas. So I ended up selling it back to a pawn shop.
NO WAY they are ever going to gather up the guns on the USA. Even if there was a price of $1,000 on every POS gun out there, they'd never find them all. So many sitting forgotten in basements, barns, old cars boxes etc. I think your 400M number is low.
I have zero ideas of any realistic or practical solutions to the gun problem in the US. Except to live in Canada and hoep the gov't invokes the notwithstanding clause and enacts 5 and 10 year minimum sentences for simply carrying a firearm (5 years) and (10 years) for carrying or using the firearm in the commission of another offence. Including traffic offences. Having a gun when a cop pulls someone over puts the stop on a whole next level.
