In the monologue at the time, the comedian said Trump and his allies were "desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them"

Robinson isn't a MAGA Republican so Kimmel was incorrect..He shouldn't touched this but he couldn't help trying to score points with his leftist base fans. Kimmel has been around the block and he knows exactly what he is doing.

In the end free speech prevails and he is allowed back on the air minus about 20% of the stations he was on...He's drawn that line in the sand now lets see if the tide comes in on him or not.
And....was Kimmel really wrong? At the time, and even today, nobody knows too much about Robinson. The fact was the righties were doing anything they could to tie him to ANTIFA or accuse him of being Trans or what not. And, they did it with little to no facts.

Robinson might be MAGA. He might be Groyper. He might be left-leaning. We still don't know. And, I stand by my point: he didn't say anything disrespectful about Kirk's murder. It was the aftermath that was were the stupidity popped up.

And....it is a pretty slippery slope to pull television commentators off the air for saying incorrect things. If it were the case, more than half of Fox's opinion side would be out of work....

Why do you think the Biden Administration wasn't muscling businesses to comply with their political goals particularly when regulatory matters were in play? Gensler's SEC example below is just one of several regulatory agencies that prioritized political goals.

It's hard sk. I think liberals are fine with these things as long as they like the outcomes.

Per Google AI:
During his tenure, then-SEC Chair Gary Gensler prioritized Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) by developing a DEIA Strategic Plan and issuing biennial collections of diversity submissions to assess progress in regulated entities. Under his leadership, the SEC identified DEI as a priority for capital markets regulation, leading to scrutiny of DEI-related disclosures and shareholder litigation risks for public companies.

Gensler's SEC and DEI

  • DEIA Strategic Plan:
  • The SEC under Gensler adopted a DEIA Strategic Plan in September 2023, focused on fostering inclusivity and integrating DEIA principles into the agency's mission.
  • Data Collection:
  • The agency performed biennial collections of "Diversity Self-Assessment Submissions" from regulated entities to evaluate progress and trends in diversity-related activities.
  • Regulatory Priority:
  • Gensler's SEC identified DEI as a priority area for its regulation of capital markets, signaling the importance of these issues to the agency.
  • Shareholder Litigation Risk:
The increased focus on DEI led to greater scrutiny of DEI-related disclosures, increasing the risk of investor lawsuits against companies based on their DEI programs and public statements.
Show me where any of this led to any mergers or acquisitions or caused people to lose their jobs? And, you might not be up on this, but one of the big proponents of DEI/ESG was the head of a little investment company called....BlackRock. And that started long before Gensler was appointed head of the SEC. And, I also hate to point this out, since capital markets do not exist in a vacuum. A little group called the European Union (along with a number of Asian organizations) have embraced ESG, which does include strong support for DEI. So, the point of all that is that the SEC was at the time making it easier for American organizations to comply with international laws.

So...show me ANY company that got in regulatory trouble for not following DEI? Or one where the head of the SEC threatened them with something for not doing it. You can't. Because these things are NOT similar.

To insinuate that his own MAGA supporters assassinated him is very disrespectful to Kirk's family
Interesting. But you have no issue with the right calling out everybody else for the assassination when they have no facts or evidence. Why is that OK? I mean, they immediately started saying it was the left who assassinated him. They had outrageous claims that there was trans markings on the ammunition. And, as of right now, we do not know what the shooter's motivation was. Is it possible he was a leftist? Sure. Is it possible he was far-right? Of course. But the total lack of empathy from the right when a Minnesota legislator was murdered (like Utah GOP Senator Mike Lee) was probably alright in your books.

Don't mention genocide when referring to Trump since your side didn't go out and vote for Kamala. You had a helping hand in giving BIBI everything he ever wanted.
Is that a fact? I haven't seen that in any post election analysis. It could be just an oversight on my part.

Of course it did.
Tariffs tend to increase prices and therefore expenditures.
Also lower imports.
So GDP artificially looks higher.
Shaq, you should be banned from discussing economics and finance. You can't learn all this stuff from reading headlines.

The chart posted by CNN notes
"Quarter-over-quarter change in real GDP, annualized"

Nominal GDP the total dollars of the economy is adjusted by the "GDP deflator" to determine Real GDP. In layman's terms, Real GDP is adjusted for inflation.

I'm guessing CNN didn't keep reciting the term Real GDP in the article because they expected the audience to assume that.

Take a look at this admissions 2026 deadline for the University of Toronto economics programs.

Ah, ah, ah! Don't get over your skis SK. Fox News is distributed privately. It's also not really a comedy network trying to offer political news and commentary.

Now granted I and others have said cable news is mostly an unhealthy diet of infotainment. However, I'm pretty sure Jimmy Kimmel is a comedian on a public broadcasting network. Jon Stewart can get away with a lot more political smack with his comedy because of the private distribution.

I don't like the antiquated regulation and public pressure on broadcast networks over the airwaves, but that's how they were set-up. Going further, I don't care that Nextstar wants to acquire more local stations. A progressive might object because they hate corporations. I don't fear consolidation in this specific instance. We have a lot of choices for news and information.

I also have a hunch that Canadian airwave TV is highly regulated.

You are correct. Fox is not an over-the-air broadcaster that faces tougher regulations than a cable channel....which is why you can swear on cable.

But the point here is that Kimmel did nothing that would elevate it to a level where the FCC in any past administration would bat an eye. It wasn't like he pulled a women's top off a la Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, which led to a $500K fine to CBS (which was then thrown out by a court). Some of the usual suspects on this board have tried to say this was nothing but a business decision and Carr's comments had nothing to do with it. But, they aren't too bright. This was a warning shot, and Newstar and Sinclair heard it. And, it was over something that in the grand scheme of things seems super trivial.

And, yes, Canadian TV is highly regulated, but, for the most part, not about that. I mean, you can have profanity and nudity on CTV (at least later in the evening). Remember when CityTV used to air soft-core porn? Most of the regulations are over content, as in, the requirement for Canadian content. Hence why we saw so much of the Littlest Hobo back in the day....

I keep hearing that, but it's grossly exaggerated. You can object to Charlie Kirk having a large national presence, but you can't disagree this national presence exists. I myself was surprised by how many Americans knew who he was.

If you don't want to believe me, look at the attendance at his funeral.

There's tons of evidence Tyler Robertson was left-wing, and almost zero evidence he was right-wing.

I have already posted the evidence in previous posts

So views aren't a driver of market share which is as driver of stock prices? Revenues aren't a driver of stock prices? Companies aren't in business to make money???

Id hate to be an investor in your business if you dont think driving revenue is a priority
I think I didn't explain it correctly.

My point was that there are other factors that drive decisions, not just ad revenues. Then I listed a few other factors that do. The sausage making behind the scenes at publicly traded companies usually makes no sense on many levels and even less from traditional views that the pubic thinks. That's one reason I distrust and think publicly traded and private equity firms do a lot of harm to society in many ways. You never know of the internal machinations going on behind the scenes.

The point I was making is that there is more to a decision to cancel a show than ad revenues.

I don't think the progressives will concede anything unless a manifesto turns up. Even then, they would quibble about its meaning.

The fact that Robinson has refused to talk suggests the insanity plea is probably on the table. Don't think declaring political extremism and violent retribution is a good tact at this point in his defense.

A day at the dentist is better than a day on the TERB political forum.

I know we're all quick to judge, or that we all are experts on the psychology of someone who might do horrific acts...But, that isn't exactly the smoking gun you want it to be. I mean, what if he was trying to cover his tracks and immediately make it look like a lefty did it? What if he is (and I'm not saying he is) a Groyper, someone who things Kirk isn't going far enough and wants to start a civil war? Maybe assassinating a leading righty who you think is only doing half-measures is the means to spark something?

Look, I'm not saying I'm right. I could be way out of the ballpark. But, there has not been an official release of a motive, and there might never be. The shooter could be a fucking ANTIFA-loving BLM celebrating tranny. Or, he could be a super right-winger who wants to fuck shit up and start a war between the right and left. Or his neighbours dog could have told him to end Kirk to prevent armageddon. To be frank, we may never know. If he was a righty, I could see the FBI or local police keep a tight lid on this.
