There are no negotiations with Trump. You need to flatter him, say he is a great leader, lick his ass all over, grift some money to him and his family personally, then you might be in his favour for a positive negotiation.
The first groups he fuck in the ass are the farmers and ranchers. But that was planned as Trump's pal billionaire, wants to buy farmland (JD Vance's as leader). The tariffs are killing them. Giving 40 billion to Argentina and then importing their beef untaxed is the ultimate penetration in their ass. But hey, who cares? These stupid farmers are mostly all fucking racist, so they will vote for him again anyhow.

Canada's relations with the U.S. are a foreign policy matter probably best handled by the Federal govt. in Canada.
Ford is the bad cop who stirs things up and Carney is wise and diplomatic one. Alberta can do whatever it wants to do. The ad was clearly from Ontario, not the federal gov't of Canada. Trump's tantrum backfired because now everybody in the world knows what Reagan said and most know that Trump lied about it being fake. You can't really negotiate with the irrational psycho Trump, so just string him along and watch him implode.

What he won't do is talk about the issues in his portfolio, instead he'll attack bike lanes and radar traps then do something like the $75 million he spent in america on those ads.

You're 100% right. Ontario does not have the ability to negotiate foreign deals. That is the realm of the federal government, who can make treaties and trade deals. Now, I understand why Ford did this, Ontario's auto sector is vitally important and Trump's tariffs are targeting them (as well as the steel/aluminum sectors). And, the video is actually pretty smart...However, he's speaking out of turn.
Now, to be honest, I think Trump would have found one reason or another to try and fuck with negotiations, especially since the US Supreme Court could rule soon that his "emergency" tariffs are not legal...Which would basically make these negotiations moot for the most part (yes, I know the USMCA is coming up for renewal).

Incidentally, the U.S. trade deficit hit a major peak in 1987. It was dramatically reduced by 1991 in no small part due to tariffs, quotas and other trade restrictions.

It's ridiculous. This spat with allied countries might throw away the Western world's last chance to counteract China. Canada and the United States should have stood together to combat China's economic might. Instead we're squabbling, and I wouldn't be surprised if both the U.S. and Canada make concessions to China that allow them to run roughshod over both of us in a decade's time.

Europe in recent years has become concerned about Chinese state-promoted mercantilism.
Canada is secondary not in stature but in the magnitude of the Chinese problem.
Europe as almost always will pursue regional economic interests.
I'd like to see the U.S. and Canada move to form a common market. Forget Mexico. What we have now is trade that is more managed than anyone acknowledges.
