Certainly there are hotels around that operate on a "no questions asked" basis. I used one years ago for a couple of hours. The problem is that they tend to be sleazy dives. I am not looking for something palatial, but something that is functional, clean and comfortable. And cheap, of course!

Yes I remember that too. And the result was - Canada was boring, uptight with nothing to offer. (Except for Montreal of course.) But Toronto was a dead city. Now it is vibrant and a fun place to live.
