I don't believe you can advance the time. The time on the unit is set automatically from the satellite. Depending on the time zone which you are in, the clock will set itself accordingly. It also dictates the programming guide times that you see.

Depends on whether or not you are going with plasma or LCD. If you go plasma, Panasonic, Pioneer and Samsung are pretty good. If you go LCD, Samsung, Sony, and Panasonic are good as well.
