ask any repair guy, they will tell you not to buy a sony.
Ask me, I'll tell you to never buy a Sony. I can't begin to tell you how many Sony products I've had that have all broken in a very short amount of time.
They are the most expensive and most unreliable. They sell on the Sony name alone. Their TV's do have good picture quality though.
Plasma and LCD both have thier advantages and disadvantages. You have to determine what characteristics are right for you.
I have a Panasonic plasma and love it. Plasma has many myths about it. Burn-in is not an issue these days unless you really abuse the TV. I use mine just like my old CRT with no issues. I can even play the same video game for hours on end with not even a hint of image retention. For me, the only advantage LCD offers over plasma is no glare but most of the time that is not an issue for me because of when I watch TV and the amount (or lack there of) light coming into the room. Other than that I prefer plasma.
What I don't like the most about LCD is lack of viewing angle and black levels. Good black levels are what give the picture the 3D look and Panasonic plasmas do it the best next to CRT's. Bad blacks that appear more dark grey wash out the image and make it look flat. LCD's are catching up fast though and if you're not picky like me you won't have a problem with LCD.
