I have another post regarding my Synology nas. But no one bit the bait/question. I want to get some help with the wireless setup part of it. It works fine will connected to it. 1t west dig, so I have the backup part covered. I wanted to access the data from wherever I am. But the wireless part is giving me a headache. Going to let a pro do it for me, any suggestions?

I have had Maxtor's and Western Digitals fail in the past. I have a Barracuda UDMA 33 or 66 and it's still working. So I bought the Seagate 1TB Barracuda last year. The fact that they have 5 year warranty's also made it attractive.

I built a new system this year and picked up a 500 gig Seagate as my primary and a 1.5 gig Seagate as an additional slave. I figure 3TB was enough for now.

I moved about 500-600 gigs worth of porn onto the 1TB. The fucking drive died 3 months back. I lost my entire porn collection. Pissed is an understatement. It's great that it is under warranty (until 2013), but what about the data.

A year ago I would have said buy Seagate, today I don't know. If you have one of their drives, download their utility software and scan your drive to make sure it is fine. As well back up your stuff.

Reports are out that 1 TB drives and bigger are failing more than the smaller drives. It's best to buy them in pairs for backup, for data you want saved. That way if one fails your important stuff is still on the other.

I still buy Seagate for the 5 yr warranty. Critical data goes on 2 and sometimes 3 drives.
I have no faith in any DVD media for long term storage.
