I'm not "shamefully belittling" anybody ( except maybe you). I'm just quoting what many veterans have admitted. I respect and admire their efforts. Freedoms? Trump is taking those away now.

to defend my nation...I am ready to give my life to safeguard your freedom....'
as the reason they joined the army. A fireman who had given his life would
more likely have said he liked the excitement of fighting fire than he was
ready to put his life at risk to do his job. As a research scientist whose job
is to tackle various unsolved fundamental problems in molecular
physics I don't tell people around me advancement of civilization
is the objective of my career. I simply told people I like what I am doing.
It is one thing for people to not brag about the importance
of the role of their professions in the society. It however speaks
to the lack of character of those who belittle the role they play.
I have had the fortune of finding myself in the good hands of
dedicated doctors and teachers for instance. And I would not
say they did what they did to care for me because they were well paid.
