Group C is not particulary hard. Holland and Argentina should go through easily

Easily? I dont think so...Serbia coasted through qualifying, only allowing one goal in the process. Ivory Coast is one of the better African nations that will be there...Argentina bombed last World Cup while Holland wasnt even there. Yes Dutchies and Argentina our favourites, but it aint no cakewalk...
that is what people expect. everyone expected Argentina and England to make it out of the so called group of death in 2002, England did make it out but Argentina failed to.people also expected France to blow through its group in 2002 again not only did they fail to do that but also failed to record a goal in all 3 matches. i think you will see an upset or 2 with the african teams. the only seeded team guranteed to make it out of its group is brasil.

Brazil vs Holland

I dont know how Holland will set up for this match, but I do remember Jaap Stam laying a severe beating to Ronaldo at the close of the 2001-02 season. When he was mercifully substituted ( Lazio 4 Inter 2) Ronaldo left the pitch in tears and never returned to the Serie A.

Unfortunately for Holland, Stam's game has fallen through the floor...as the CL Final proved. Unfortunately for Italy, Al Nesta is being run ragged propping up Milan's enfeebled defense.

It will also be very interesting to see which one of these 20 year olds will make the biggest impact in Germany:

Wayne Rooney
Bastien Schweinsteiger
Giorgio Chiellini

As for Giuseppe Rossi, I was told by Scotland fans that he was in the line-up for the USA against the Scots.

...it's not the same without the Tartan Army.

I know its a moot point, but Stam wasnt there when Lazio beat Inter on the final day. Lazio won the title in the 1999-2000 season, and Stam was sold there during the 2001-2002 season. And the Inter/Lazio game you are referring too occurred in 2000-2001 (that Lazio win caused Roma to win the title)

everything else is correct though, as I too remember Ronaldo leaving the field in tears!

Why, because Serbia finished ahead of Spain?
Nope. I was looking more towards Argentina, Ivory Coast, and Holland. Ivory Coast played to a draw against Italy in a recent friendly, and seem like a very attack-minded team. The Italian defence had their hands full throughout.

Ivory Coast has a pretty decent team and a very good striker in Chelsea hitman Didier Drogba

Brazil all the way though with the Dutch in there.

Talking about the 20 year olds, what about the South Americans, I think Robinho is a lock to play alongside Adriano. But do you guys think Messi will get a chance to play for Argentina? (I am a cracy Barcalona Fan) I am not too fimilar with the Argentinan Strikers situation, who do they have?

I dont think Robinho is a lock, he hasnt played that well with Madrid, he'll be on the team but wont be a starter.

Argentina has Crespo (Chelsea), Saviola (Sevilla), Tevez, Figueroa (Villareal), thats all I can recall right now. Only the latter 2 played at the Confederations Cup, I forget who else they had striking

I taped the game.

It was the final game of the 2001 - 02 season, Lazio has never done Roma a favor. Inter was in the hunt for the scudetto and that loss allowed Juventus to win the title.

It was the first year of Stam/Nesta partnership and the last games for Poborsky (who scored twice) and Ronaldo is Seria A.

As for Lazio fans; when Nedved was sold to Juventus they got the dogs out, when Veron was sold to United the crickets chirped.

I am still convinced Stam wasnt there.

I recall Podborsky scoring twice, and I am pretty sure Luigi Di Biagio scored on a near post header off a corner to make it 2-1 Inter than Lazio scored 3 straight...

but seeing as you have the tape and I dont I probably shouldnt argue!

I think Robinho is a lock because if Brazil don't play him, the only reasonable choice is Batista, but then his play is somewhat similar to Adriano. While Robinho is still good to drop back a bit and play some midfield with Ronaldinho... And my god, by all means, please don't be so dumb to play Ronaldo...

Well, Madrid is not playing Robinho enough...

But remember in the confederation cup how important, not how good, but how important Robinho was, although he don't score like Adriano and maybe Ronaldo, but then he works great in the team as a linkage between the midfield and Adriano, kind of like having half a Ronaldinho and half a striker there. Brazil is having enough attacking power, having Robinho and using him the way he was used in confederation cup, can further strengthen the midfield and maybe even allow more room for defence. Think about the last worldcup and think of Rivaldo, Robinho is the guy to play that role.

But then I guess world cup is all about stars, the game has changed...

Marco Bresciano was outstanding for Australia, I'm surprised that none of the Premiership's big clubs picked him up? Arsenal could certainly use him.

Did anyone see how harried Al Nesta looked in the Milan derby? Nedved, Koller and Baros must be salivating.
