Stats and lies?
It's frustrating to hear of shootings and stabbings on a frequent basis in the GTA, then have the government produce these stats. But I suppose it can lead to more votes and pats on the back.
I have no issue with your post. Just to say, this is one stat that favours the party in power and police interest groups, and I find it difficult to accept each time I hear it. According to stats Canada http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/85-004-x/2009001/part-partie1-eng.htm, serious crime may be on the increase, and be masked by the lower reports of lesser crimes: "If the number of minor thefts and mischief both decrease in a given year, the crime rate is likely to decline, even with significant increases in more serious crimes such as murder and break-ins. In other words, because of their relatively low volume, more serious crimes have little impact on changes in the overall crime rate."Since the overall crime rate is dropping Harper has decided to make more activities illegal, so there will instantly be more "criminals".
