Yes, life is unfair and inequality will always exist. But why the antagonism towards redistributive policies? What of the role of compassion? Even if we cant eliminate inequalities, surely its a worthy goal to pursue?

I agree with your social liberalism. I disagree with your opposition to welfare, etc, though I would like to see those programs simplified.

If you took your proposal and added a guaranteed minimum income with a flat tax it'd be similar to my vision. Basically pay everyone regardless of employment status $15k/yr and then have a flat 50% tax rate with no deduction, no tax loophole. Eliminate welfare, EI, CPP, OAS, OSAP, S all of it.

Eliminate the minimum wage too since the 15k provided a minimum already.

So if a retarded guy can only earn $5/hr he can get that job, pay$2.5/hr in tax, make an extra $2.5/hr free and clear, he gets 15 earns another 5 after tax and can live on $20k/yr. If he can get a $1 raise he gets another $20/week in his pocket so there's always an incentive to work a little harder and make a little more.

For a guy earning $30k this is break even. He pays $15k in tax and gets $15k back. People above that pay a flat 50% but it's effectively a progressive tax since the 15k back becomes less and less significant as you make more. A guy earning 60k pays 30 and gets back 15 for an effective tax rate of 25% for example. A guy earning 100 pays 50, gets 15 back, for an effective rate of 35%. A got earning 200k effectively payscan85 for a rate of 42.5%, Etc.

Simplifies the tax filing system hugely so you can fire almost everyone at CRA. Most people don't even need to file a return at all since employer can defuct 50% at source, banks and brokers can do the same. So unless you have self employment income there's no need to file a return at all since no deductions anyway.

So that's a simplified welfare system but it's fair to everyone, nobody applies for it, and everyone has an incentive to work. Employers don't need to pay a minimum wage, the burden of carrying the poorest shifts to all of us rather than just those employing the poor.

On the surface your welfare system seems better than the current one in the usa. I would lower the flat tax and lower the flat universal basic income and add 2 very important clauses: "only for citizens" and "does not increase with more babies". Then I could probably live with it (without really liking it)

What I don't like about taxation in general is that the poor get something for nothing, the middle are penalized and get fuckall in return, and the rich are BIGLY penalized and get fuckall in return. Some would say they feel it less, but just because the rich will still have tons of money left over does not make stealing right. I don't even make that much but I don't feel entitled to Bill Gates' or Warren Buffet's money.

They would also hand out flyers to birth control, abortion and euthanasia centers run by private charities that they could *optionally* go to. These would be side-projects of mega-corporations with visionary CEOs. They'd even run ads on giant screens with a pleasant female voice explaining how wonderful those services are like in those dystopian movies lol

p.s. i think we SHOULD be able to block non-citizens based on race or religion. it's just that some idiots in the past made dumbass constitutional amendments granting non-citizens some constitutional rights, that are really difficult to remove. the founding fathers did not intend that shit. non-citizens should not have automatic right of entry; they should have no rights beyond not getting shot.
