Skyy had some grooves back in the day. This was definitely one of them. Some mean bass

I've been following a couple of YT DJ's that have put me on to some under the radar hip hop from back in the 1990's. Here's a few examples

Buckshot Lefonque. A group started by jazz musician Branford Marsalis.

"Music Evolution"

"Definition of an MC" by World Renown

"Listen Up" by Erule. I knew this one from DJ Jazzy Jeff. This might be my favorite underground hip hop joint from the 1990's. Killer sample of Roy Ayers.

My favorite cut off of Inspectah Deck's 'Uncontrolled Substance'. Of course the Rebel INS was one of the members of the Wu-Tang Clan.

"REC Room". Produced by Tru Master

one of my Stax favourite females
I knew that. Very rarely do I hear her on the Soul Town channel. And when you do its always the song "Baby". She has some more depth than that. Like this tune

This came across my feed a couple weeks ago. Hadn't heard this jam in ages. From the soundtrack to the movie Jason's Lyric.

"Forget I was a G"

Sampled a few years later on this Total joint.

"Sitting Home"

1979 was some kind of year for r&b/soul. Some amazing songs and albums were released that year. Of course Michael Jackson's 'Off the Wall', Sister Sledge's 'We are Family', Chic's 'Risque' which are some of my absolute favorites ever. The Bronx group GQ also released 'Disco Nights' that year and I'm telling you this is a wicked LP. Almost every track is at least good. The main singles from the album were "Disco Nights (Rock Freak)", "I Do Love You" and "Make My Dreams a Reality". But it also contains catchy tunes like this one

"This Happy Feeling"

Right now I'm searching for an original vinyl pressing of this album. Near mint to mint copies are pretty pricey, looking at about $75-$80. If I accept something in the VG+ range I can get $45-$60.

I just found out recently that Wayne Lewis, keyboardist, co lead vocalist and songwriter for the group Atlantic Starr passed away in June. RIP. Here he is on lead vocals, one of the group's best jams

"Send For Me"

Another 1979 jammer. Teddy P was the man. How many kids were conceived to his music?

"Come Go With Me"

Of course the incomparable Gamble & Huff with the writing and production.

Man this guy's voice was something special. Raspy and soulful. Did not know this tune was produced by Van McCoy (of The Hustle fame)

1966 James Brown classic

"It's a Man's Man's Man's World"

The intro was sampled in two different hip hop classics. Both from 1989

"You Ain't Heard Nuthin' Yet" by Heavy D & the Boyz

"Mortal Kombat" by Big Daddy Kane
